Gedaanteverwisseling. De Omen-serie van HP staat niet alleen bekend om zijn relatief goede prijs/prestatie-verhouding, maar ook om zijn unieke uiterlijk. Dankzij een redesign in midden 2017 heeft het game notebook een verfrissend nieuw uiterlijk. In ons testrapport lees je wat er verder nog veranderd is.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (26.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (42.5 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 54 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8568 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Terwijl vele fabrikanten al jaren al op hun lauweren rusten, of om preciezer te zijn, op hun behuizingen en feitelijk alleen innerlijke componenten zoals de CPU en GPU updaten, durft HP het met de nieuwe generatie Omen aan om een compleet nieuw ontwerp te introduceren dat naar onze mening in veel opzichten succesvol is.

Hoewel de behuizing niet lichter of slanker is geworden, scoort deze punten met een grotere stabiliteit, betere invoerapparaten en eleganter materiaalgebruik. HP verdient ook punten met het excentrieke uiterlijk, of het nu je smaak is of niet. Op de ietwat gewone reactietijden na kan ook het beeldscherm overtuigen.

Het 120 Hz paneel dat in het topmodel is ingebouwd kan overtuigen met stabiele kijkhoeken, een hoog contrast en fatsoenlijke kleurwaardes.

Er valt ook weinig te klagen over de luidsprekers.

We hebben wat een dubbel gevoel over de grafische kaart. In de praktijk heeft het Max-Q ontwerp slechts een miniem positief effect, terwijl aan de andere kant bijna 10% prestaties ingeleverd worden zonder dat de notebook betaalbaarder wordt. Andere fabrikanten behalen dezelfde of zelfs lagere emissie waardes (temperatuur, geluid) met een normale GTX 1060.

Toch is HP erin geslaagd een significante stap voorwaarts te maken, dusdanig dat het deze keer een plaats in onze Top 10 weet te behalen (Top 10 Lichtgewicht Game Notebooks).
