Google's Nexus 6P heeft een goede indruk achtergelaten. Naast een krachtige SoC, krijg je 3 GB RAM en veel draadloze communicatiemogelijkheden. Naast AC Wi-Fi (tot 866 MBps), ondersteunt de smartphone ook Bluetooth 4.2, NFC en veel mobiele frequenties. In de praktijk bleken de telefoonfuncties goed te werken en waren we tevreden over het snelle besturingssysteem, een goede camera en betrouwbare vingerafdrukscanner. Het is ook prettig dat de GPS module zeer nauwkeurig is. Het contrastrijke 5.7 inch AMOLED beeldscherm, die kleuren uitzonderlijk levendig weergeeft, is een ander hoogtepunt van de smartphone.
Terwijl de kleinere Nexus 5X alleen verkrijgbaar is met maximaal 32 GB geheugen, kan de Nexus 6P maximaal 128 GB bevatten, dus is er voldoende ruimte voor grote mediabibliotheken. Zoals gebruikelijk voor Google apparaten is het niet mogelijk de opslagruimte te vergroten met behulp van een microSD kaart.
Ondanks de 3450 mAh batterij en duidelijk terugvallende prestaties onder zware belasting, zijn de looptijden nogal teleurstellend. Aan de andere kant wort het apparaat niet te warm.
De Nexus 5X had al een zeer goede beoordeling ontvangen en dit geldt nog meer voor de grotere Nexus 6P, omdat het niet alleen de goede eigenschappen van het kleinere model heeft overgenomen, maar ook meerwaarde biedt. Veel gebruikers zullen de aluminium behuizing op prijs stellen.
Je zal zelf moeten beslissen of de extra functies de meerprijs van €120 waard zijn. Indien je bereid bent om niet direct updates van Google te ontvangen, is de concurrentie ook het overwegen waard: de LG G4 is bijvoorbeeld al verkrijgbaar vanaf €450 en ondersteunt microSD's en bevat daarbij een toegankelijke batterij.
