De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Asus legt een erg stijlvolle 5.5-inch-smartphone op tafel die ook met zijn interne onderdelen weet te overtuigen. Met Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625 octa-core-processor en 4 GB RAM heeft de ZenFone meer dan genoeg rekenkracht voor alle moderne applicaties en games. Daarnaast beschikt het toestel over een erg helder Full-HD-scherm met stabiele kijkhoeken en een 16-megapixel-camera die prima foto's maakt. Andere features zijn LTE, een dual-SIM-slot, Type-C-USB-poort met Quick Charge-technologie en een vingerafdruklezer. Asus vervolledigt het succesvolle totaalpakket met het nieuwste Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow onder een laagje van de nieuwe versie van zijn ZenUI-interface. De lange batterijduur en beperkte temperatuurontwikkeling bij gebruik zijn eveneens vermeldenswaardig.

Asus heeft met zijn ZenFone 3 een designer-stuk ontwikkeld. De mid-range smartphone ziet er veel duurder uit dan hij in werkelijkheid is.

Er valt weinig te bekritiseren. De Android-knoppen onder het scherm hebben geen backlight en de overdracht van data via WiFi voelt redelijk traag aan. Asus is ook iets te royaal met de software-configuratie en installeert onnodig veel apps op de smartphone. In onze test slaagden we er niet in om apps te verplaatsen naar onze micro-SD-kaarten aangezien deze niet geformatteerd konden worden als intern geheugen.
