Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 6 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (25.8 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.9 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 3 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (41.3 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 53 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8813 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Als we moesten kiezen tussen de ROG Zephyrus GX501VI (GTX 1080 Max-Q) en de ROG Zephyrus M GM501GS (GeForce GTX 1070), zouden we persoonlijk voor de laatste optie gaan. Hoewel de GM501 aanzienlijk meer geluid produceert bij 3D applicaties, biedt het apparaat vrijwel identieke gaming prestaties en betere invoerapparaten voor een veel lagere prijs. Het contrastrijke 144 Hz beeldscherm met G-Sync ondersteuning en optionele grafische switch zijn verdere pluspunten.

Helaas heeft de GM501 ondanks Optimus technologie geen lange looptijden; daartoe zou het apparaat een grotere batterij nodig hebben. Hierdoor behoudt de Aero 15X de troon in het segment van mobiele 15 inch high-end notebooks. Concurrentie van Acer (Predator Triton 700) en MSI (GS63VR) wordt door de Zephyrus M onder de duim gehouden. Gamers die veel reizen en naast een lichte, hoogwaardige behuizing hoge prestaties eisen zullen zeer tevreden zijn met de GM501.

Intel's zes-core CPU, die we nu voor het eerst in een mobiel apparaat aan het werk hebben gezet, geeft de prestaties in multi-core applicaties een flink impuls. Dit is geen overbodige luxe na het uitbrengen van AMD's op Ryzen gebaseerde zes- en acht-core chips. Of zoals wordt gezegd: concurrentie is goed voor zaken.

Trouwens, de testrapporten van de gloednieuwe MSI GS65 en de geüpdatet Gigabyte Aero 15X (beide met Coffee Lake hardware) zullen binnenkort gepubliceerd worden - deze machines zullen de Zephyrus M flink op de proef stellen.
