Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (25 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9418 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

De Predator Helios 700 is een zeer interessante gaming notebook van Acer die veel ideeën en innovaties heeft. Van verwisselbare WASD-toetsen tot een schuifmechanisme voor de invoerapparaten. Acer gebruikt dit verbeterde koelsysteem niet om geluid te verminderen maar om de prestaties te verbeteren.

De fabrikant overclockt de GeForce GPU om het meeste eruit te halen. Het notebook blijft comfortabel koel zelfs tijdens overclocken maar wordt in plaats daarvan heel erg luid. Het was niet zozeer het algemene geluid dat ons stoorde maar vooral de wisselende RPM. Dit leek meestal onnodig. Ofwel: Acer moet zeker werken aan zijn koelsysteem.

Verdere tekortkomingen zijn het feit dat het touchpad te diep in de behuizing zit, de ontbrekende SD-kaartlezer en de korte batterijduur. De behuizing gaf een gemixte indruk. Gamers zullen tevreden zijn met de hoeveelheid poorten, het goede toetsenbord, de sterke luidsprekers en de hoeveelheid aan verlichting instellingen. Daarentegen horen de zware bouw (geen slanke beeldschermranden) en het hoge gewicht niet meer in 2019 thuis. We waren tevreden met het hoge-contrast 144 Hz beeldscherm ondanks bepaalde zwakheden (kleurnauwkeurigheid, helderheid en helderheidsdistributie).

Al met al moeten Acer fans die geïnteresseerd zijn om elke moderne game op hoge details te spelen en die hier het geld voor over hebben zouden zeker deze 17-inch laptop nader bekijken. Een ieder ander heeft mogelijk de voorkeur voor een klassieke (en waarschijnlijk goedkopere) high-end notebook zonder alle toeters en bellen van de Predator Helios 700 (bijv. Helios 300 of Triton 500).

Waarschuwing: De Predator Helios 700 is een van de eerste game notebooks die geëvalueerd zijn gebaseerd op de verlengde (en uitgebreidere) v7 beoordelingsmethode. Hierdoor lijkt het dus dat deze laptop slechtere resultaten heeft vergeleken met zijn recent geteste high-end concurrenten. In de toekomst moeten alle nieuwe game notebooks de v7 beoordeling doorstaan.
