Nvidia's nieuwe, efficiëntere RTX 40-generatie maakt het mogelijk: de high-end grafische kaarten kunnen in steeds kleinere vormfactoren worden verpakt. Asus gaat nog een stap verder en installeert simpelweg een RTX 4060 in een 13-inch tablet in plaats van een 13-inch laptop. Deze wordt geleverd met een magnetisch toetsenbord en verdubbelt zo als convertible. Dus kunnen we nu AAA-games spelen op tablets?

EN→NLWhile it’s not the most performant gaming laptop around, the Asus ROG Flow Z13 is unlike any other device I’ve ever tested. Not only is it a very compact machine, it’s got plenty of power for a lot of games, and more than enough oomph for creative work. Its biggest weakness is by far its battery life, making it a poor mobile workstation, at least as long as you’re away from a wall socket. For my purposes, though, the Asus ROG Flow Z13 would be a much better mobile powerhouse with a high-powered AMD APU inside, like what comes in the Razer Blade 14. That way, the Flow could get great on-the-go runtime, have enough pep to run the occasional game on the road, but when back home can dock up with an external GPU for more resource-intensive games and programs. But, if you like your laptops small, but don’t want to compromise on power, then the Asus ROG Flow Z13 is an excellent little beast.

EN→NLASUS had a great idea with the original ROG Flow when it was released last time, but unfortunately, technical hurdles limited the potential of the gaming tablet. That’s no longer the case with the ROG Flow Z13 (2023), as advancements in GPU tech have turned the idea of a powerful, thin, and light tablet into reality. It’s not often that you’ll be able to play AAA games with graphical settings set to ultra in a random Starbucks, but that’s the flexibility and the freedom that the ROG Flow Z13 (2023) gives you. The only issue is the price – at Php 140,000, the ROG Flow Z13 (2023) is expensive, far more expensive than your typical high-end gaming laptop. But then again those things are usually not as powerful, or as compact as ASUS’ latest gaming tab.

EN→NLOther than Apple fitting the M1 and M2 chips in its tablets, we are yet to see Windows machines take this power leap. While the ROG Flow Z13 has its shortcomings, it certainly knows how to make its presence felt. This is a stupidly powerful machine in a crazy shell that is meant to enable you to carry it wherever you go. You can use it as a standalone machine or hook it up to an external monitor and enjoy its full power at your beck-and-call. Of course, you can buy laptops with more horsepower from competing lineups, but this is going to be a different experience from a conventional gaming laptop. And that’s because Asus is headed in a good direction if it steadily keeps improving upon it. This is a second-generation product right now. But three or four years down the line, it could shed a lot of weight, gain some hours in battery life, and have even more power.

EN→NLThe ASUS ROG Flow Z13 is an incredibly specific product catering to a very specific niche – the people who wants a 2-in-1 that also happens to be capable of running AAA titles. You can find the first group of people fairly easily by itself, and you also can find plenty of gamers out there. I wonder how many people actually contemplated on buying this exact laptop, because even the Flow X13 would’ve been a much more sensible option – you still get touchscreens, better cooled hardware, slightly more expansive I/O and bigger battery too. At RM8,999 (the sole spec coming to Malaysia so far), this is far from the ‘value’ option even among ROG models, so you’ll need to evaluate if portability-over-performance is more suitable for you, or a more conventional performance-over-portability clamshell gaming laptop will get the job done better. If you happen to fit within that tiny niche of needing a high-performance gaming tablet and Flow X13 just won’t cut it for whatever reason, well – you don’t really have a second option, do you?

NVIDIA NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU: High-end grafische kaart voor laptops gebaseerd op de Ada Lovelace-architectuur. Biedt 8 GB GDDR6 (128 Bit) en is configureerbaar met een TGP van 35 - 115 W (+ Dynamic Boost).
Deze grafische kaarten zouden de meeste moderne spellen op een hoge resolutie en hoge details moeten kunnen draaien (enkele uitzonderingen zijn mogelijk).

i9-13900H: Op Alder Lake gebaseerde mobiele CPU met 6 prestatie-kernen en 8 efficiënte kernen. De prestatie-kernen bieden hyper-threading, wat leidt tot 20 threads die verwerkt kunnen worden. De CPU klokt tot 5,4 GHz. Vergeleken met de i9-13900HK wordt er geen eenvoudige overklokfunctie ondersteund, maar wel een volledige vPro-beheerfunctieset.
