De Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is een smartphone met een degelijk ontwerp, een erg goed scherm en gebruikelijke, complete specificaties. Ook de accuduur en het snelle opladen maken indruk. Minder positief ben ik over de mogelijkheden van de camera's en de oude software die opdringerig overkomt. Het updatebeleid kan ook beter, zeker in vergelijking met merken als Samsung, Oppo en Nokia. Onder de streep biedt de Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G een compleet totaalpakket met enkele aandachtspunten. De adviesprijs van 369 euro vind ik daarom net een paar tientjes te hoog. Goed nieuws is daarom dat de smartphone in rap tempo goedkoper wordt. Op moment van schrijven vind je hem bij veel webwinkels voor tientallen euro's minder dan de adviesprijs. En voor die prijs kan ik de Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G zeker aanraden. Interessante alternatieven zijn de Samsung Galaxy A33 en andere toestellen in onze koopgids van smartphones tussen 300 en 400 euro.

Hoe verrast we vorig jaar ook waren bij de Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro, en hoe goed deze opvolger in eerste instantie ook leek met het premium uiterlijk. Uiteindelijk weet de Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G de geweldige voorganger net niet te evenaren. Dat ligt niet aan het premium design, dat werkelijk een lust voor het oog is. Ook het display en het geluid is prima in orde. Dat maakt deze smartphone een echt entertainmenttoestel. Op het gebied van de camera zijn er helaas geen stappen vooruit gezet, ondanks de wederom uitstekende hoofdcamera bij daglicht. We kunnen zelfs eerder van stappen achteruit spreken door het ontbreken van de mogelijkheid om video’s op te nemen in een 4k-resolutie. Waar het toestel echter flink tekort op schiet is de software. Android 11 kan eigenlijk niet meer. Er staat teveel bloatware op dit toestel en het updatebeleid is eigenlijk niet meer van deze tijd. Kijk je daar doorheen? Dan is de Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G zeker geen slecht toestel. Integendeel zelfs. In deze prijsklasse is het een goed toestel, maar helaas niet zonder tekortkomingen.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G’s overall battery score places it in the Top 10 of our entire database. It is a very well-balanced device, providing more than 2.5 days of autonomy when used moderately, a good charging experience, and decent efficiency. The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G’s performance was mixed during the on-the-go tests, with strong autonomy for social apps, but low autonomy when using GPS navigation. The 67W charger filled up the large 5000 mAh battery in 58 minutes and 58 seconds, which is very fast for the Advanced segment. A 5-minute quick charging boost yielded a good autonomy of 6 hours and 19 minutes. The charge was also very efficient. The device had good control of discharge currents when comparing the entire database, with lower-than-average consumption in most uses. But discharge currents were only average for the segment, with a high consumption noted when using GPS on the go. Compared with other devices in the Advanced segment ($200 to $400), the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G’s overall performance was ranked among the best, with charging and efficiency ranked above average...

The Redmi Note 11 Pro is a strange phone that’s likely a victim of the ongoing global chipset shortage. This trend of 2022 phones that are inferiorly specced compared to their 2021 counterparts isn’t exclusive to Xiaomi phones. Redmi’s main competitor Realme is experiencing similar with its Realme 9 series. That said, when you take away the context of past and present (and a global crisis), the Note 11 Pro 5G is still a good phone at a good price. Its screen is excellent for watching videos, its design both looks and feels premium for the price – much better than the Poco X4 Pro 5G’s – and it has exceptionally good battery life. Gamers should definitely look to last year’s Poco F3, an absolute bargain with Snapdragon 8-series power. Anyone after a better camera should consider the Realme 9 Pro+, which edges ahead thanks to its stabilized lens and superior video capture. But for binge-watchers after refined styling, the Note 11 Pro still has its place.

When not even PR people can presume to say that a phone is fast, we’re looking at the undeniably slow end of the spectrum. You’re not paying for top performance either. What you’re paying for is, first and foremost, a 108 megapixel camera, 5G and a 120Hz screen in FHD+ resolution. Unfortunately, the built-in limitations mean neither the camera nor the screen really comes to any advantage. The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is still not a bad phone. But the prioritisation of the goodies isn’t very practical.

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 11 Pro gains 5G, but we are not yet at the point where 5G can be added without sacrifices at this price. This phone has significantly worse secondary cameras than the Note 10 Pro, making it feel like a less special Android than its predecessor. It also loses 4K video capture, with any camera, which is likely a limitation of the Snapdragon 695 chipset. However, let’s appreciate what we get with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G. It has the same primary camera hardware as the Note 10 Pro, albeit with slightly different processing behaviors and less consistent results. Night images are decent at the price if you use the dedicated low-light mode, but general image quality is not as good as the Google Pixel 5a’s.

In fact, the design isn't as good as last year, and the camera is worse off thanks to the lack of 4K video recording. Then there's the software situation; with the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G running Android 11 and slated to get just two version updates, it is on an equal footing with the Redmi Note 10 Pro. With a lot of alternatives readily available, I can't help but feel that the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is a poor showing in this category. The Realme 9 Pro+ gives you more value for your money as it has Android 12 out of the box, and you get better cameras. The Redmi Note 10 Pro is still the default choice if you don't care about 4G, and if you need to switch to 5G, the Realme 9 Pro+ is the obvious alternative.

I'm not sure what Xiaomi has done in order to cut the cost down on its $329 Redmi Note 11 Pro, but it’s not apparent in the form or function of this stellar budget smartphone. With decent performance, a quality 108MP main shooter, a stunning 120Hz AMOLED display and fantastic battery life, the Redmi Note 11 Pro raises the bar on what a more affordable Android smartphone can do — putting some flagship smartphones to shame. Not everyone will get full use out of flagship smartphones like the iPhone 13, Samsung Galaxy S22 or Pixel 6, so it’s understandable they turn to the budget smartphone market. But the people that do will be pleasantly surprised with the flagship perks phones like the Redmi Note 11 Pro deliver anyway, albeit at a subpar level in some departments such as processing power, OS sustainability and camera capabilities. Regardless, you’d be hard pressed to find a more affordable smartphone option with these specs, and the phone cover that Xiaomi throws in with the Redmi Note 11 Pro is just the icing on the cake.

Xiaomi has delivered yet again with their Redmi Note series. The Redmi N0te 11 Pro 5G is a worthy successor to the AndroidHeadlines Editor’s Choice 10 series device from last year. The hardware design has great improvements, the processor delivers better performance, and has 5G connectivity and you now get an ever faster 67W charging brick in the box. Xiaomi did not mess with the display, battery capacity, great-sounding speakers, headphone jack, or the multitude of connectivity options. There are a couple of small compromises, namely the lower resolution macro camera and lack of 4K video. The first one isn’t too meaningful because the main camera with 2X digital zoom produces better output than the macro camera in my experience. The only big drawback then is the inability to record 4K video. On the plus side, you get great hardware, excellent ergonomics, a beautiful screen, good performance, lots of RAM, 67W fast charging, NFC, and stellar audio. Main and ultrawide camera performance is quite good as well for still photography.

For RM1399, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is charting into new territory for the Redmi series. That’s a pretty big leap up from the RM1099 of the Redmi Note 10 Pro. You get faster charging, 5G and a faster chipset, but you also sacrifice the significantly better 5MP telemacro camera. It might be unfair to compare the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G versus the Redmi Note 10 Pro, and I guess the recent chip shortage might have resulted in increased costs for Redmi. But even then, the Redmi Note 11 Pro (non-5G) gets a rather major downgrade from its predecessor when it comes to performance, while being offered at the same price. The only main advantage of this year’s Redmi Note 11 Pro duo is the 67W fast charging. In all honesty, I am not really liking the way the Redmi Note series is heading, and hopefully we will see it steered in the right direction once again soon.

The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is a smartphone with an updated stylish and practical design, slightly more advanced hardware with support for 5G, as well as fast 67W charging. True, it’s not better in everything than the last generation, but this mainly concerns cameras. In terms of photo capabilities, everything remained on the same level, except for a more simplified module for macro, but in terms of video, the Note 11 Pro 5G disappoints. Otherwise it is the same mid-range smartphone with a large high-quality AMOLED display and 120 Hz, excellent battery life and stereo sound. In addition, it offers newer up-to-date software, and therefore it will be supported by the manufacturer for longer.

Qualcomm Adreno 619:

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

SD 695 5G:

Snelle mid-range ARM SoC met 8 CPU Kryo 660-kernen (twee snelle 2,2 GHz ARM Cortex-A77-gebaseerde kernen in een cluster en zes energiebesparende ARM Cortex-A55-gebaseerde kernen op 1,7 GHz) en een lagere mid-range Adreno 619 GPU. Ondersteunt alleen Wi-Fi 5 en is gemaakt in de 6 nm.
