The Realme 12 Pro+ with its overhauled design, updated core hardware and a very capable telephoto camera easily makes for a worthy upgrade even if you happen to own last year's model. As a mid-range device stacked up against smartphones like the Redmi Note 13 Pro+, it does fall a bit short when comparing specifications on paper. The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ (Review) surely goes big on bragging rights with a better IP68 rating, faster 120W wired charging and a massive 200-megapixel camera sensor and should be high-up on your list if raw performance is a priority. And these bragging rights do come at a higher starting price of Rs. 31,999 (for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant). But it misses out on a few things that Realme 12 Pro+ latches on to like a leech. There's a class-leading telephoto camera that performs like nothing else we have used in this segment or even above it (Pixel 7a).

The realme 12 Pro+ 5G might not have changed too much in terms of design compared to its predecessor, but realme did make changes where it matters – performance and camera. Consequently, realme didn’t make the phone too expensive despite the serious performance and camera upgrades. At a price of just Php 25,999 (with special intro price of Php 21,999 via Lazada, Shopee and Tiktok Shop), it is a bit more expensive than before. But given the upgrades, I would say it is justified. However, the price increase does mean it has a lot more serious contenders to go up against. Even if you already have the realme 11 Pro+ 5G 11, you won’t feel short-handed if you do trade up. Nonetheless, the realme 12 Pro+ 5G is a great phone to buy especially if you already need to upgrade to a new model this early 2024.

The main change in the realme 12 Pro compared to last year’s model is the full, versatile camera setup: there’s a decent main module, a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, and a wide-angle lens. However, these are all present in many competitors for roughly the same price. What else does the new model offer? Well, first and foremost, it’s the design, which may be a matter of taste, but it certainly stands out from the crowd. Additionally, there’s a quality curved screen, good stereo speakers, and a very durable battery. What can be listed in the “cons” section? The screen, while vibrant with its 120Hz AMOLED, has too low a maximum brightness for sunny days and suffers from glare and fading. The processor isn’t particularly productive (there’s been no progress since last year), and competitors at this price point may offer something better.

However, you do have to make some compromises in terms of performance and software. As such, whether you should buy the Realme 12 Pro or not boils down to what you want in a device. On the other hand, if you’re looking for alternatives, there are a few notable ones you can consider. These include the OnePlus Nord CE3, Redmi Note 13 Pro+, Motorola Edge 40 Neo, and the POCO X6 Pro. While the Realme 12 Pro+ is another option worth considering, what you’re essentially getting by paying Rs 4,000 extra is a slightly improved performance (with better multitasking capabilities) and better cameras.

Both Realme 12 Pro and 12 Pro Plus provide what they claimed and that is a premium user experience. This premium experience can be seen everywhere, including its leather design, superb display, speedy chipsets, excellent cameras, and great batteries. These are its greatest strengths. On top of that, the curved nature of the displays further enhances the premium experience of the new smartphones. However, there are some cons as well, especially if you consider the prices of the two smartphones, which are not cheap by any means. One of the major cons is the lack of any display protection. In the premium smartphone category, this is a must. The second would be the lack of wireless charging, which is not a must but would have been nice to have. It would have certainly set it apart from others in the market. Right now, the new smartphone doesn’t offer much that its competition in the same price bracket doesn’t already offer, except for the cameras. The cameras of the Realme 12 Pro and Realme 12 Pro Plus are indeed better than the competition.

To answer the question in the title, is the Realme 12 Pro the best phone under Rs. 25,000? It has a decent set of cameras that gives you a wide, ultrawide, and dedicated telephoto lens. The processor and RAM combination is powerful enough to handle multitasking and future updates. And the battery management & charging tech is also at par with some of the more expensive phones. On the other hand, the display isn’t bright enough for outdoor use, some features in the UI don’t work, and the images are still not as good as they should be with the current specs. That said, at Rs 23,999, the Realme 12 Pro is a good option if you want a mid-range smartphone for daily use. Realme has also bagged recognition for being a reliable smartphone service provider. So you can also expect good after-sales support if you go for this device. As for me, I’ve seen Realme make some bold phones in the past, and the theme seems to slow down with the Realme 12 Pro lineup. It is a great package with decent specs, and should easily last you a couple of years.

There's not a lot you're missing out on. It's a great phone for the price, but the only question is, would I recommend it over phones like the Poco X6 Pro? If cameras and design are more important to you, then you should buy the Realme 12 Pro; if performance is more important, then I'd say go for the Poco.

For selfies and video calls, Realme has included a 16-megapixel camera, the same as last year. What's not the same as last year is the processor. The Realme 12 Pro 5G comes with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC, which is a 4nm chipset said to provide better performance and efficiency when compared to the older model. I'll have to test the claims to find out if it's true, but everything seemed smooth at first glance. The chipset is paired with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB onboard storage. The handset gets dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and GPS connectivity. Realme has packed a 5,000mAh battery on the Realme 12 Pro 5G with 67W fast charging support, the same as last year. I'll test the battery performance in my full review. The phone runs Android 14-based RealmeUI out-of-the-box, and you do get plenty of bloatware.

The 5,000mAh battery can easily last a day, and the 67W charger can top it within an hour. Overall, the Realme 12 Pro is a great device if you want a camera-centric smartphone with a premium design. You can also consider options like the Poco X6 Pro, Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro and the Oppo Reno 11 in this segment.

The Realme 12+ is an interesting device. It definitely has an exquisite design with standout aesthetics. There is plenty more to like here, such as solid rear cameras, a very competent stereo speaker setup, pretty good battery life, and competitive charging speed. The Dimensity 7050 inside the Realme 12+ may not be the fastest chip around but it's hard to find something more powerful for that kind of cash. It has enough power to run the UI and most daily tasks and apps smoothly, but you can't expect much more. The Realme 12+ also handles its high refresh rate very poorly, with practically no dynamic switching and very limited high refresh rate gaming abilities. Even so, the Realme 12+ seems like a good value device at its current price point, and it's got our outright recommendation.

While the Poco X6 offers a better display, slightly faster chipset, a bigger battery, and higher base storage, the iQoo Z9 5G gives you better performance and more storage at the same price as the base Realme 12+ and a similar-performing main rear camera. Now, if you pay more for the Nothing Phone 2a, you'll get a faster chipset, a unique design with a Glyph interface, a better software experience, and a better camera setup. If I were to spend Rs. 20,000, I'd probably pick the Poco X6.

If you are eyeing a new mid-range device that is affordable but offers a vegan leather design, good cameras, and decent performance then the realme 12+ 5G is a good upgrade path.

We really hope realme keeps the 12+ below Php 20k to make it a solid mid-range offering in the Philippines especially for those who are looking for top-notch camera performance. realme will reveal the pricing and availability of the 12 series on March 7.

Realme:

Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

Qualcomm Adreno 710:

De meeste niet-veeleisende huidige games kunnen vloeiend draaien. Wees voorbereid op verminderde grafische weergave door lage detailinstellingen en lage resoluties. Toch verschaffen deze kaarten voldoende prestatie voor kantoor taken en video bekijken (niet voor HD videos).

ARM Mali-G68 MP4:

Geïntegreerde grafische kaart voor het middensegment met 4 clusters op basis van de Valhall-architectuur. 

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

Dimensity 6100+: De Dimensity 6100 Plus is een SoC voor het lagere middensegment met een geïntegreerde 5G-modem. Hij bevat twee snelle ARM Cortex-A76 kernen op maximaal 2,2 GHz en zes energiezuinige Cortex-A55 kernen op maximaal 2 GHz. De specificaties zijn vergelijkbaar met de oude Dimensity 700 SoC en bijna identiek aan de 6020.
