Nokia wil met de X20 een duurzame telefoon afleveren. Ik denk dat Nokia met het update- en garantiebeleid van de X20 en de toevoeging van 5G-ondersteuning daarin grotendeels geslaagd zijn. De telefoon is toekomstbestendig. Al ben ik geen grote fan van het meegeleverde duurzame hoesje. De camera’s van de Nokia X20 leveren geen topprestaties maar dat ligt in lijn met prijscategorie waarin het toestel zich bevindt. Op het gebied van software heb je met Android One alles wat je nodig hebt. Dit in ogenschouw genomen lijkt het een prima toestel. Waar echter voor mij de schoen wringt, is de prijs-kwaliteitverhouding van de Nokia X20. De telefoon heeft op dit moment een adviesprijs van 379 euro, en met deze prijs in gedachten en datgene wat de concurrentie in deze prijscategorie biedt, heeft Nokia toch een paar - in mijn ogen - vreemde keuzes gemaakt.

De Nokia X20 is een smartphone die het niet van zijn specificaties moet hebben maar van zijn 3+3+3-strategie. Nokia laat namelijk een goede sier achter door de telefoon drie jaar garantie te geven en drie jaar software-updates uit te rollen. Uniek in dit prijssegment. Alleen de Samsung Galaxy A52 en Google Pixel-smartphones kennen hetzelfde updatebeleid, maar komen met twee jaar garantie. Als ik zeg dat de Nokia X20 geen specificatiemonster is, bedoel ik dat het scherm en de camera’s ondergemiddeld zijn.

Inkopers die voor hun werknemers een degelijke en veilige no-nonsense smartphone willen, zijn met de Nokia X20 goed uit. De smartphone is met zijn prijs van 379 euro relatief betaalbaar en Nokia garandeert drie jaar beveiligingsupdates én geeft standaard drie jaar garantie. Dat de smartphone een relatief duurzaam product van Europese bodem is, is een positieve meevaller.

Considering the calibre of phone you can currently buy for a lot less money, the Nokia X20 fails to stand out in any meaningful way. If your buying budget is tight and you’ve got your sights set on 5G, then the cheaper Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T remains our top 5G value pick for the time being. Sadly, the Nokia X20’s comparatively pared-down offering just isn’t quite good enough to earn a recommendation.

I am desperately trying to find a clever headline for the Nokia X20 5G, but I can’t. I keep coming up with solid, average, outclassed… it is an alright phone in every way. Greatest apologies to Nokia for the intro, but I desperately want it to succeed, if only for ‘old times sake’. Its 1 to 9 series, and recently .3 (2019) and .4 (2020) iterations increasingly felt like they had been left in a cupboard for six months and released at a time when the competition had seriously raised the features and specifications bars.

Nokia promises three years of software upgrades, security updates and an extended warranty to match with the X20, and you can even plant trees using the phone’s IMEI number, but for most people, that won’t make up for the lacklustre hardware hidden beneath the premium-looking exterior. There are cheaper phones that offer brighter displays, better cameras, faster charging and a generally improved smartphone experience, and that makes it hard to recommend the Nokia X20 to anyone aside from the most dedicated stock Android fans. The extended support Nokia is offering is a huge improvement compared to most manufacturers, don’t misunderstand us, but the hardware needs to be more competitive to get a recommendation.

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.
