EN→NLI could go on and on about the ThinkPad X9; I love it. As I said at the start of this article, what’s important and valuable to me may not be the same for you. I do believe the Lenovo ThinkPad X9 is the absolute best laptop of 2025. But that may not be the same for you. The combination of features and experiences above has led me to crown this laptop as the best of 2025. I continue to use the ThinkPad X9 as my main laptop and main mobile workstation, and I cannot wait to see what comes for Gen 2.

This model represents a bold new reimagining of what a ThinkPad can be for the modern knowledge worker and the AI-assisted tasks they perform. The key caps of the keyboard showed definite signs of improvement over previous generations of ThinkPad, and the screen was gorgeous, too: the deep blacks and color saturation reminded me more of a laptop designed for digital video editing than an AI workhorse. And the laptop’s slimness and battery life means it can be carried around and used just about anywhere for a long time. That said, the unit does have some first-of-its-line jitters: The chassis has fewer expansion ports than other ThinkPads in the 15” size range, and having room for just one single-sided M.2 2242 NVMe SSD means less storage capacity as well.

The battery life and sturdy chassis are also great. The problem is: Performance. If you need a high-performing business laptop, especially for a price that warrants it, then you’re much better off going with the MacBook Air 15-inch M4. It’s faster, supports nearly as much battery life, and it gives you access to the whole macOS suite of apps. However, if you need a Windows device that supports a stunning OLED display, none of the competitors can keep up with the Lenovo ThinkPad X9-15 Gen 1 Aura Edition.

Ultimately, the X9 carves out a compelling niche for traveling pros and discriminating consumers who prioritize a premium visual experience and cutting-edge AI integration alongside portability and reasonable-enough performance.

EN→NLThe Lenovo ThinkPad X9 Gen 1 is a controversial addition to the ThinkPad lineup and easily the best addition to that lineup in many years and possibly the best laptop of 2025 (it is). Yes, I know that is a bold statement, so take it with a grain of salt and do your own research and read other reviews. Overall, both the 14-inch and 15-inch models offer similar performance experiences (depending on what CPU you opt for). Obviously, the screen size is different, but both of these panels are 2.8K OLED displays with anti-reflective coating, and they look spectacular. The design is on point and really reminds me of a MacBook Pro, that is intentional. The new Intel chips and GPUs are spectacular and offer nearly the same performance and battery life as Apple’s M-chips.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" uit de Engelse legende, novo (Latijn voor nieuw) werd in 1984 opgericht als Chinees handelsbedrijf in computers. In 2004 was het bedrijf de grootste laptopfabrikant in China en, na de overname van IBM's pc-divisie in 2005, de op drie na grootste ter wereld. Naast desktops en notebooks produceert het bedrijf monitoren, projectors, servers, enz. en is het gespecialiseerd in de ontwikkeling, productie en marketing van consumentenelektronica, pc's, software, bedrijfsoplossingen en aanverwante diensten.
In 2016 stond het bedrijf op de eerste plaats in de wereld wat betreft computerverkopen. Dit was in 2023 nog steeds het geval, met een wereldwijd marktaandeel van ongeveer 23%. Belangrijke productlijnen zijn Thinkpad, Legion en Ideapad.
In 2011 verwierf het een meerderheidsbelang in Medion AG, een Europese fabrikant van computerhardware. In 2014 werd Motorola Mobility gekocht, wat Lenovo een boost gaf op de smartphonemarkt.
Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.
Intel Arc 140V: Een behoorlijk snelle geïntegreerde grafische adapter die naar verluidt bepaalde Intel Lunar Lake processors gebruiken. De 140V heeft 8 kernen met Xe²-architectuur die draaien op maximaal 2.050 MHz en 8 ray tracing-eenheden; hij is geschikt voor DirectX 12 Ultimate en ondersteunt ook alle moderne videocodecs. Als recente uitgelekte benchmarkscores een indicatie zijn, zullen de gamingprestaties iets beter zijn dan die van de GeForce MX570.
Deze middenklasse grafische kaarten kunnen alle huidige spellen vloeiend spelen. Veeleisende spellen kunnen alleen met gemiddelde detail instellingen gespeeld worden.

Intel Lunar Lake:
Core Ultra 7 258V: Een processor uit de Lunar Lake familie voor het hogere middensegment. Dit is een SoC voor gebruik in slankere laptops en tablets met 4 nieuwe E-cores en 4 nieuwe P-cores op maximaal 4,8 GHz, samen met de veelbelovende nieuwe Arc 140V iGPU en 32 GB on-package LPDDR5x-8533 RAM. Een nieuwe 47 TOPS neurale engine, TB 4 en PCIe 5 SSD ondersteuning zijn ook inbegrepen.
Intel Panther Lake:
Ultra X9 388H: High-end 16-core SoC van de Panther Lake-familie en topmodel met 12 Xe3 GPU-kernen. Net als bij Lunar Lake biedt de ingebouwde NPU 5 50 TOPS en nu ondersteuning voor FP8. De CPU ondersteunt vPro beheerfuncties.
