Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (24.7 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 9524 Hz ≤ 20 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 9524 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 20 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 9524 Hz is redelijk hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen.

Ter vergelijking: 50 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 18115 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

De Samsung Galaxy Book S liet een goede algemene indruk achter tijdens onze recensie. We vinden de combinatie van de extreem lichte behuizing, de lange looptijd van de accu's en het geïntegreerde LTE-modem erg prettig. Wat heel handig is als je veel reist en bijvoorbeeld een apparaat nodig hebt voor beurzen. Als je voornamelijk gebruik maakt van webapplicaties en Microsoft's Office suite, zul je de beperkingen van de ARM-processor nauwelijks opmerken. We raden nog steeds aan om voor de aankoop te controleren of er compatibele versies zijn van de apps die je van plan bent te gebruiken.

De passieve koeling en de geweldige luidsprekers zijn twee andere hoogtepunten. De invoerapparaten zijn matig. Maar de toetsenbordverlichting is alleen bruikbaar in volledige duisternis, omdat deze veel te donker is en pas na een kleine vertraging aangaat. Het vereist zeker enige fine-tuning. Het scherm is ook niet slecht, maar de concurrentie gebruikt gewoon betere panelen en Samsung's eigen Galaxy Book S met de Intel processor is ook veel helderder volgens de officiële specificaties.

De Samsung Galaxy Book S is een geweldige mobiele notebook met een extreem lichtgewichte behuizing, geïntegreerde LTE en zeer lange accu-runtimes. U moet echter wel rekening houden met de beperkingen van de app-selectie als gevolg van de ARM-processor voor u de aankoop doet.

We zijn nu al benieuwd hoe de Galaxy Book S met de Intel hybride processor zal presteren. Het zou meer prestaties en compatibiliteit moeten bieden, maar er zijn kortere runtimes voor nodig en er is ook geen LTE-modem.
