Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 200 Hz ≤ 50 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 200 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 50 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 200 Hz is redelijk laag en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering kunnen dit dus waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen (gebruikmakend van de vermelde helderheid en lager).

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 15366 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

HP's middenklasse zakelijke notebook heeft iets betere prestaties dankzij de nieuwe Kaby Lake processoren. Dit is bij alledaagse taken echter nauwelijks merkbaar. De nieuwe processoren verbeteren de batterijlevensduur. De laptop weet de toch al heel erg goede resultaten van zijn voorganger te verbeteren. De notebook werkt erg stil en wordt bij elk type belasting nauwelijks warm. Dankzij een 500 GB harde schijf zul je niet snel opslagruimte tekort komen. Het is mogelijk om de HDD te vervangen door een SSD. Dit vereist het verwijderen van de bodemplaat - wat vrij makkelijk gedaan kan worden.

Over het algemeen levert HP met de ProBook 650 G3 een solide zakelijk notebook. Het testmodel is echter minder aantrekkelijk dan het had kunnen zijn, aangezien de prijs veel te hoog is voor de geboden features.

Over SSD gesproken: HP biedt voor € 1.050 een notebook met een HDD in plaats van een SSD. Dit riekt bijna naar oplichting. Het gebruikte toetsenbord is goed en gemaakt voor intensief gebruik. Verlichting ontbreekt echter. Gezien de adviesprijs had dit een standaard feature moeten zijn. En het beeldscherm stelt nog meer teleur. HP gebruikt een TN-paneel met laag contrast en smalle kijkhoeken. In deze prijsklasse mag dit soort panelen niet gebruik worden. We hadden een IPS-paneel verwacht.
