De voorganger was goed. De Dell Inspiron 17-5758 is slechts een kleine update en veel van onze bestaande kritiekpunten zijn onveranderd gebleven: er zijn nog steeds weinig aansluitingen, die overigens niet optimaal zijn geplaatst, hoewel ze nu niet meer te dicht op elkaar zitten. Gigabit LAN ontbreekt en de garantietermijn loopt al na 12 maanden af. We missen het aluminium beeldschermdeksel van de voorganger aangezien dat het ontwerp ten goede kwam. De behuizing van de Dell Inspiron 17-5758 komt dus bescheiden over.

Het apparaat wordt luid onder belasting en de aparte GPU is nauwelijks geschikt voor moderne games. Onder volledige belasting wordt het apparaat te warm aan de bovenkant. De processor presteert dus niet optimaal.

We waren wel tevreden over het matte IPS paneel, die wat helderder had mogen zijn. De ClickPad heeft indruk op ons gemaakt met de hoge mate van nauwkeurigheid en het energieverbruik is aangenaam laag. Daarnaast is de Wi-Fi ontvangst stabiel en wordt nu ook de 802.11ac standaard ondersteund. De GeForce 920M biedt zelfs beperkte game-mogelijkheden.

De Dell Inspiron 17-5758 heeft gemengde gevoelens achtergelaten. Hoewel de voorganger veel nadelen had, lijkt het apparaat nu beter gebalanceerd. Andere multimedia notebooks bieden aanzienlijk meer voor dezelfde prijs.
