Is de Core Ultra 7 255H het waard in de ThinkPad E16 G3? We hebben het getest

Lenovo's betaalbare kantoorlaptop ThinkPad E16 G3 presteerde erg goed in onze review. U kunt ook de krachtigere Core Ultra 7 255H met de snellere Arc Graphics 140T krijgen, maar is dat de meerprijs waard? Wij hebben het getest.

De nieuwe ThinkPad E16 G3 liet een goede indruk achter in onze review en Lenovo heeft de kantoorlaptop op belangrijke punten verbeterd, waaronder het chassis, de poorten en het beeldscherm. Onze reviewunit was uitgerust met de huidige Intel Core Ultra 5 225U (Arrow Lake) en deze biedt voldoende CPU-prestaties voor standaard kantoortaken, maar het zwakke punt zijn de lage iGPU-prestaties. We hadden nu de kans om de ThinkPad E16 G3 te testen met de krachtigere Core Ultra 7 255H, die ook de geïntegreerde Intel Arc Graphics 140T biedt. Het is geen verrassing dat de Core Ultra 255H meer prestaties biedt, maar de koeleenheid (één ventilator, kleine heatpipe) is identiek, dus hoeveel prestaties kunt u gebruiken?

Beide CPU-modellen gebruiken dezelfde koeleenheid.

In alle CPU benchmarks liggen de prestaties van de Core Ultra 7 255H 29% voor op die van de Core Ultra 5 225U. Hij is echter ook langzamer vergeleken met de gemiddelde prestaties in onze database. Vooral langere benchmarks laten het effect van de relatief zwakke koeleenheid zien, wat duidelijk zichtbaar is in de lange Cinebench 2024 Multi test. De ThinkPad ligt 20% achter op het gemiddelde voor de Core Ultra 7 255H in dit scenario. De kleinere Core Ultra 5 225H in de ExpertBook B5 is ook niet veel langzamer bij vergelijkbare vermogensgrenzen.

De situatie is veel beter als we kijken naar de prestaties van de iGPU. We moeten echter opmerken dat de Arc Graphics 140T ook profiteert van een dual-channel geheugenconfiguratie, terwijl het basismodel met de Intel Graphics slechts was uitgerust met één geheugenmodule (single channel). De 140T is 120% sneller dan de Intel Graphics in synthetische benchmarks, maar de resultaten blijven opnieuw een beetje achter bij de gemiddelde resultaten die we gewoonlijk voor deze iGPU krijgen.

Als u na het werk graag wat spelletjes speelt, zult u ook baat hebben bij de Core Ultra 7 255H met de Arc Graphics 140T. Onze standaard gaming benchmarks in de 1080p resolutie tonen een voordeel van meer dan 70% in vergelijking met de Core Ultra 5 225U. Als u van plan bent om een externe grafische kaart te gebruiken (wat geen probleem is dankzij Thunderbolt 4), profiteert u ook van meer headroom met de snellere processor.

Zoals verwacht is de Core Ultra 7 255H veel krachtiger dan de Core Ultra 5 225U, maar houd er rekening mee dat de koeling van de ThinkPad E16 G3 niet het volledige potentieel van de snellere CPU kan benutten. Of u bereid bent om 170 euro meer te betalen is een andere vraag. De kleinere Core Ultra 5 225H (inclusief de Arc Graphics 130T) voor 50 euro meer is waarschijnlijk de redelijkere keuze voor de E16 G3.
