Is de Samsung Galaxy J5 nog altijd de onbetwiste leider in de markt van de betaalbare mid-range toestellen? Moeilijk te zeggen, maar het is wel zeker dat de Samsung een degelijke alleskunner is zonder echt grote minpunten. De concurrentie is echter een pak sterker geworden in het afgelopen jaar. De Motorola Moto G5 Plus biedt een volledig metalen behuizing, een snellere SoC en uitstekende batterijduur. Het design van de Sony Xperia XA1 is ongetwijfeld uniek en zijn camera is uitmuntend.

De J5 loopt op een aantal vlakken achter op zijn concurrenten: zijn scherm met lage resolutie, zijn beperkte opslagcapaciteit en zijn batterij die niet langer verwisselbaar is. Het huidige model is op zijn minst uitgerust met een omgevingslichtsensor, die reeds lange tijd gangbaar is in andere smartphones. De vingerafdruklezer is tegenwoordig ook een vereiste.

De vraag blijft: waarom blijft de J5 zo populair? Zijn hoogwaardige behuizing, geoptimaliseerde software en efficiënte werking zorgen voor een evenwichtig en gestroomlijnd totaalpakket. Soms gaat het ook om de kleine dingen, zoals zijn Dual SIM-capaciteiten of de iets teruggetrokken en dus beschermde camera. Als je op zoek bent naar een oerdegelijke mid-range smartphone zou de Galaxy J5 (2017) zeker op je lijst moeten staan.

De Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) is zeker niet onverslaanbaar, maar is een erg evenwichtige en gestroomlijnde mid-range smartphone.

Als je meer rekenkracht nodig hebt, ga dan voor de Motorola Moto G5 Plus. Als je een betere camera wenst, zou de Sony Xperia XA1 wel eens je beste vriend kunnen worden. Als je graag een vleugje charme van een vlaggenschip-smartphone wenst, is de Huawei P10 Lite een interessant keuze. Ten slotte is de BQ Aquarius X een erg interessant, hetzij exotisch alternatief.
