At £1,500 it’s hardly cheap, but in a world where high-powered gaming laptops routinely break the £2,000 price battier, it’s actually decent value. Sure, you could pay more for a higher-resolution screen or slightly better performance, but when the 15 R2 is fast enough for great 1080p gaming and its rivals are struggling at 4K, you have to ask yourself whether it’s worth it.

We all know those bulky and heavy gaming notebooks that have all the horsepower needed to power up the latest games, but what if we told you that Alienware has put all the top-shelf hardware from NVIDIA and Intel and put it in a smaller 15-inch form factor notebook? Hard to believe it, but when we first reviewed the new Alienware 15 gaming machine, we didn’t know what Dell has in stored for us. A few months later we are testing the Alienware 15 R2 with top-tier quad-core Core i7-6700HQ CPU and rarely seen in a 15-inch devices – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M GPU.

Well, the Alienware 15 R2 is an update for a very good gaming laptop, the first Alienware 15. It has a very good gaming performance, but also very good peripherals and extra features – very good and comfortable keyboard, good touchpad, good enough speakers, very good build quality, HDMI 2.0 + mDP, TPM 2.0, enough storage options including an 1xM.2 PCIe, Thunderbolt USB-C connection port and an IPS display.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M:
Tragere high-end grafische kaart gebaseerd op de Maxwell-chip GM204. Maakt deel uit van de GeForce GTX 900M-series.
Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.
