Dells Alienware 13 is een interessante notebook. Voor een gaminglaptop is de Alienware 13 compact en licht (uiteraard is hij wel een stuk zwaarder en dikker dan een ultrabook). De afwerking van het geheel is erg goed en de behuizing is stevig. Voor normale werkzaamheden is de Alienware 13 een fijn apparaat. Het Full HD-scherm in de door mij geteste uitvoering koppelt een prettige resolutie aan goede inkijkhoeken en een hoge helderheid. Het toetsenbord tikt prettig en voelt duurzaam. Daarbij kun je zelf de kleur van de verlichting instellen.

The Alienware 13 is a beautifully designed and rugged feeling gaming laptop that you can take with you anywhere. As is often the case with Alienware, the price is just a little too steep considering the specifications. However, at this size we would be tempted to pick the 13 over any similarly sized rivals simply because it feels so well made. You also get Dell's excellent collect and return warranty that includes in-home support should the firm decide it's required. If you don't have as much money to spend, though, the Chillblast Defiant 2 Mini remains our favourite compact gaming laptop.

Given the quality of the Alienware 13 laptop (15 and 17-inch models have also just been announced), being the only device that can use the Graphics Amplifier is a minor niggle and it can be expected that other Alienware laptops will support the connection. At less than $2000 for the whole kit (laptop, high-end graphics card and graphics amplifier), a rig that can be both a gaming laptop and an upgradable gaming desktop is a great price and well worth the investment.

The Alienware 13 is good performer but it loses out to couple of sub-100k laptops, like the Lenovo Y50 and ASUS X550JK. The laptop will perform better with an external GPU, which can be used via the Alienware Graphics Amplifier, which again requires you to shell out more money.

Alienware and Dell have created their best portable laptop to date, which manages to squeeze in plenty of power into a relatively small frame. It's chunkier than many other laptops on the market, but it's practically future proof too for all your gaming needs if you invest in the Graphics Amplifier. If you're looking for a one-stop PC to take on the go and then crank the settings up in your favourite games when you get home, it's well worth checking out.

If you're in the market for a gaming laptop then it tends to be a shout between Alienware and Razer. With UK availability and a starting price of £949 with the Intel Core i5 chipset, the Alienware 13 certainly makes its mark. Just make sure you budget for the additional Graphics Amplifier and associated card as it'll add up quickly - but you can configure your ideal system right now and, if the price is right, it'll be whizzing its way to you before the Christmas period.

While other slim gaming notebooks are aimed at giving players a little bit of power and portability, Alienware promises the best of both worlds. By itself, the $1,699 Alienware 13 delivers solid gaming performance with long battery life and a captivating ultra-high-resolution display. Admittedly, I would have preferred the more powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX 870M card, but the 13's G860M GPU gets the job done.

Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.
