Even with its 1GB of DDR2, however, the Acer TravelMate 5720 was able to produce an excellent speed score of 80 WorldBench points.
The Acer TravelMate 5720 is a reliable workhorse and, as our real-world tests illustrate, it will have no trouble running office applications under Windows Vista Business.
In line with the Acer TravelMate 5720's office focus, there are few concessions to multimedia or leisure use, although Acer has included a basic 0.3Mp webcam plus some average speakers.
The Acer TravelMate 5720 is a 3kg model, which is as much as we think any notebook designed for portable use should be.

Last month, Samsung impressed with its Q70, which managed to combine classy looks with a very acceptable all-round specification. This month, Acer shows its hand with its latest TravelMate. The 5720G certainly makes a good start: it comes in £200 cheaper than the Q70 and, although its grey exterior doesn't compare with the Samsung's glossy looks, it shapes up much more favourably when it comes to features. At the heart of operations is an Intel 2GHz T7300 Core 2 Duo processor. Paired with a decent 2GB of 667MHz DDR2 RAM, this should be enough to run Vista smoothly for some time to come, even if you like to run all of your applications simultaneously. It was enough to help the TravelMate sail through our application benchmarks, scoring 1.09 overall - that's 8% faster than the Q70's score and, to keep things in perspective, is faster than the high-end desktops of last year.

ATI Mobility Radeon X2500: Net als de ATI Mobility Radeon X2300, is de ATI Mobility Radeon X2500 een nieuwe naam voor de X1600/X1700 chip met DirectX 9 ondersteuning. Volgens de eerste informatie is de geheugenbus verminderd tot 64 bit (ATI tool en SE nomenclature). Daarom levert deze video kaart een beduidend slechtere prestatie.
Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Dit is de Core Duo, de opvolger van de Core Solo met een langere pipeline en 5-20% meer snelheid zonder een hoger stroomverbruik. Als een aanvulling op het Core Duo ontwerp zit er een vierde decoder op, een versterkte SSE-unit en een extra reken-, logische unit (ALU).
De Core 2 Duo voor laptops is identiek aan de desktop Core 2 Duo processors maar de notebook-processors werken met een lagere spanning en een lagere Frontside bus klok. De prestatie van gelijk-geklokte notebooks is 20-25% lager dan Desktop PCs vanwege de lagere Frontside bus klok en de langzamere harde schijf.
