For less than $500, the Acer E1-510P-267 is capable touch-screen Windows 8 laptop for everyday tasks, and it has enough battery life to last several hours unplugged. Yes, it's not the most attractive notebook, and its graphics performance could be better. Those looking for something even less expensive should consider the $349 HP Chromebook 14, which lacks a touch screen and runs the more limited Chrome OS.

We can hear you now. "Only $448? Sounds like an awesome deal for a laptop with a big 15.6-inch touch screen and a DVD drive! I'm heading to Walmart!" You can't beat the price of this 15.6-inch touch-screen laptop, but it comes with considerable baggage. Its keyboard and performance are particularly disappointing.

When your budget is tight, there aren't a lot of options on the laptop aisle, but the Acer Aspire E1-510P-2671 is one of the better value-priced 15-inch laptops we've reviewed. While the Dell Inspiron 15 (I15RV-6190BLK) is still our Editors' Choice for the category, due to its better performance and lower price, the Aspire E1-510P-2671 is a good alternative with enough battery life to take you through the day.

Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail): Geïntegreerde GPU voor tablet en notebook Bay Trail SoC's. Gebaseerd op de Ivy Bridge GPU met vier Execution Units en ondersteuning voor DirectX 11.

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.
