Launched in early 2008, Acer’s Gemstone Blue range of notebooks has recently been refreshed to include Intel’s Centrino 2 technology. The first example of the updated line-up we have seen is the Aspire 6935G-844G32Bn, a stylish 16in desktop replacement notebook that is crammed with features – and at an attractive price, just under £1,000. The Gemstone Blue design results in a stylish notebook. The lid has a dark blue, high-gloss finish that is set off by a gloss black bezel and keyboard surround, with a matt black chassis bottom and grille above the keyboard. Acer’s Aspire 6935G is a good all-round desktop replacement notebook with an excellent feature set and strong performance, matched by a lower than expected price tag.

Acer's Aspire 6935G is an excellent multimedia notebook combining strong performance with all the features you need, apart from maybe a higher screen resolution for true HD. That aside, what you get does come at an excellent price point.

Acer is, in many ways, the sleeping giant of computing. It might lack a little of the brand recognition of Dell or HP, but in recent times it has snuck up upon both to grab a convincing third place in the personal computer market and is the market leader in many territories. Acer's Aspire 6935G does all the things you could demand of an entertainment notebook at a very attractive price, making this one of the sounder purchases one can make this Christmas.

Commentaar

NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT: Opvolger van de 8600M GT en door het kleinere formaat van 65nm heeft de chip een hogere kloksnelheid (en is daardoor sneller) maar wel hetzelfde energieverbruik. Voor de rest beschikt hij over een verbeterde video processor (VP3) en HybridPower om de accu te sparen (in combinatie met de 9100M G).

De meeste niet-veeleisende huidige games kunnen vloeiend draaien. Wees voorbereid op verminderde grafische weergave door lage detailinstellingen en lage resoluties. Toch verschaffen deze kaarten voldoende prestatie voor kantoor taken en video bekijken (niet voor HD videos).

Intel Core 2 Duo: Dit is de Core Duo, de opvolger van de Core Solo met een langere pipeline en 5-20% meer snelheid zonder een hoger stroomverbruik. Als een aanvulling op het Core Duo ontwerp zit er een vierde decoder op, een versterkte SSE-unit en een extra reken-, logische unit (ALU).
De Core 2 Duo voor laptops is identiek aan de desktop Core 2 Duo processors maar de notebook-processors werken met een lagere spanning en een lagere Frontside bus klok. De prestatie van gelijk-geklokte notebooks is 20-25% lager dan Desktop PCs vanwege de lagere Frontside bus klok en de langzamere harde schijf.

T9400: De T9400 is een snelle processor uit het middensegment voor laptops en is eigenlijk een Core 2 Duo P9500 met een hogere TDP van 35 Watt.
