Toshiba’s Tecra A9 is a solid—if lackluster—office device with only a few weaknesses, but no special strengths. It does the job it’s meant to do and offers adequate performance in all scenarios. It offers nothing to make it a must-buy. The only extras are the additional track point, the serial connection, the nice Assist application, and Toshiba’s double warranty, as long as it remains available.. We saw mixed results with the Tecra A9’s battery life: In the worst case the battery didn’t even last one hour, but it did run three hours in the reader test. When playing DVDs it lasted almost two hours.

At the end of the day, there’s nothing wrong with Toshiba’s Tecra A9-S9021V. It’s a solid option for IT departments that are committed to Toshiba’s corporate platform and need a large-screen offering for users who seldom travel. At $1,699, however, it’s significantly more expensive than competing systems like the Lenovo ThinkPad R500, which offers better speed and battery life. The Tecra A9 has all the features and performance to get the job done, but it’s not the best choice.

The dark-gray exterior blends right in with the stainless-steel appliances at your local Best Buy. Style is usually not a particular concern in a business setting, and luckily, the A9-S9013 brings some substance with it. The Toshiba Tecra A9-S9013 is a not-so-memorable business laptop with an impressive green rating.

The Tecra A9 is the latest high-end business notebook that Toshiba offers to compete against 15.4" notebooks such as the Lenovo ThinkPad T61, HP 8510p, and the Dell Latitude D830. Many notebooks in this business category are designed to hold up to the daily rigors of a business environment, and the Tecra A9 is no different. It's claimed to have a durable chassis, protection for the hard drive, as well as a spill resistant keyboard. Let's see how this notebook stands up in our testing. The design of the Tecra A9 is not unlike many other business notebooks; very basic and professional looking. The display cover and keyboard are a simple matte silver color, with no sleek sloping curves, just mildly rounded edges all around. The rest of the notebook is black plastic, leading to a design that would blend in with most Thinkpads or Latitudes around the office. The build quality of the laptop does not feel up to par with most other business grade laptops in the same price range.

This business-friendly notebook is rugged enough to take abuse but needs more RAM for Vista.
"Business" is the first word the Toshiba Tecra A9-S9013 brings to mind. Sporting a simple design, the Tecra is a durable, reasonably priced solution for the clumsy notebook owner. But despite packing Intel's latest Santa Rosa chipset, it doesn't have the best performance punch. The 6.6-pound Tecra A9 is housed in a simple silver-and-black case that's smooth to the touch. Though it won't break your shoulder in a laptop bag, its 13.2 x 10.6 x 1.2-inch chassis doesn't leave room on the tray table for a cup of coffee. The spill-proof keyboard is roomy and comfortable, as is the touchpad controller and the track point. We had some problems hitting our intended keys, mostly because of the inlay on the keyboard's left edge, which is home to the Power button, Toshiba's Assist shortcut button, and Windows Mobility Center launch button.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100 is een geïntegreerde (onboard) grafische chip op een Mobile Intel 965GM chipset (voor Merom = Core 2 architectuur).  Dit is de opvolger van de GMA 950. De integratie van de volledig programmeerbare pipeline is het interessantste hieraan.  Vanwege de integratie van de DirectX9 features, HDR en Hardware Transform & Lighning (T&L) – voorgangers hadden alleen Software T&L – zou hij geschikt moeten zijn voor Windows Vista Premium (ondersteunt Aero Glass volledig). Volgens de gegevens zou de prestatie beduidend beter moeten zijn dan de GMA 950.

Deze grafische kaarten voor notebooks zijn niet bruikbaar voor games. Als ze al games kunnen draaien, dan doen ze dat met grafische afwijkingen en heel lage framesnelheid. Voor gamers zijn deze chips ongeschikt! Kantoor en internet taken zijn, daarentegen, geen probleem voor deze GPUs.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Dit is de Core Duo, de opvolger van de Core Solo met een langere pipeline en 5-20% meer snelheid zonder een hoger stroomverbruik. Als een aanvulling op het Core Duo ontwerp zit er een vierde decoder op, een versterkte SSE-unit en een extra reken-, logische unit (ALU).
De Core 2 Duo voor laptops is identiek aan de desktop Core 2 Duo processors maar de notebook-processors werken met een lagere spanning en een lagere Frontside bus klok. De prestatie van gelijk-geklokte notebooks is 20-25% lager dan Desktop PCs vanwege de lagere Frontside bus klok en de langzamere harde schijf.

T7500: De Core 2 Duo T7500 is een Merom Core 2 Duo met 4MB Level 2 cache. Hij zit het middensegment (2009) en presteert vergelijkbaar met een moderne P7550 of Turion II Ultra M640/M660.
