Pick up the Satellite L450, or even just glance at it, and you’re left in no doubt that it’s very much a budget laptop. Chunky, plasticy and devoid of any bells and whistles, it’s not going to appeal to those who like their laptops to stand out from the crowd. The L450 is built around budget components and suffers from poor battery life, but it’s not a bad laptop for under £400.

The L505D-S5965's battery life was the biggest clunker, though: it lasted only through 1 hour and 47 minutes of video playback using our CNET battery drain test. This fall's L305 did better using the same low-power Celeron processor, which is surprising and disappointing. In this day and age, less than two hours of battery life is just plain poor, especially for a mainstream laptop. Having the worst battery life and processor performance combo in our retail roundup certainly doesn't help its appeal any.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: De Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (soms ook GMA X4500 HD genoemd) is een DirectX 10 onboard videokaart voor de GM45, GE45 en GS45 chipset van het Centrino 2 platform (Montevina). De chip heeft geen eigen geheugen, maar kan dynamisch gebruik maken van het RAM geheugen (tot 384MB).  

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

Intel Celeron M: Dit is een Pentium M met gehalveerd level 2 Cache en beperkt op FSB 400. De eigenschappen van deze processor is de snelheid, die nauwelijks langzamer is dan een vergelijkbare Pentium M. Echter hij kan de snelheid niet dynamisch aanpassing zoals de Pentium M en heeft daarom zonder werkbelasting meer stroom nodig.
Hij is ook verkrijgbaar in een Low Voltage Version met zeer laag stroomverbruik.
