Sony's Vaio S-series laptops are slightly thicker, heavier and more capable versions of the Vaio Y-series laptop we reviewed earlier in March. The Sony Vaio S-series VPCS11V9E/B laptop is a great all-rounder. It may only have a 13.3-inch display, but its fast CPU and graphics card, as well as its comfortable keyboard, make it a respectable replacement for a desktop PC

If there's room in your IT budget for a fleet of top-end laptops you're lucky indeed, but the S11 nonetheless offers excellent value for money. It costs a little over a grand, and while there's no doubt that the quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM and massive hard disk will be overkill for most office workers, anyone who has to deal with image editing for work, or delivers presentations that include HD video, will appreciate the extra speed.

Intel's innovation has allowed Sony to refresh several of its most popular families, and the VAIO S Series is no exception. Aimed at the business user who also likes a little entertainment here and there, the S11V9E is a tough but lightweight 13.3in laptop that also packs a discrete graphics chip. Ergonomically excellent, powerful and with solid battery life, it's a business winner.

NVIDIA GeForce 310M: De GeForce 310M is de opvolger van de GeForce G210M en gebaseerd op dezelfde chip met erg gelijkaardige kloksnelheden (shader snelheid +30MHz, naar 1530MHz).

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

520M: De Core i5-520M heeft slechts 3MB L3 Cache (vergeleken met de i7-640M) en heeft een kloksnelheid tussen de 2,4 en 2,93 GHz (Turbo Mode). Met Hyperthreading kunnen er 4 threads gelijktijdig uitgevoerd worden. Een geïntegreerde videokaart (GMA HD 3150) en een DDR3 geheugen controller zitten bij in processor verwerkt.
