Great power and features on offer from this competitively priced machine. The Samsung R620 is a large desktop replacement machine combining great value for money with strong performance and a Blu-ray drive. Despite the 16-inch screen sharing the same 1366 x 768-pixel resolution as the Sony VAIO VGN-NW11Z/S, images aren't as sharp. The Samsung R620's minor build quality issues are eclipsed by its levels of performance, features and value. A worthy medal winner.

Samsung has developed a creditable habit of providing impossibly good specifications in its budget laptops, and the R620 is no exception. This laptop packs in not only a 16in screen, but also a Blu-ray drive - both surprising inclusions in such a reasonably priced laptop. Samsung's latest squeezes every last drop from its budget to include Blu-ray, dedicated graphics and a 16in panel.

Despite being the HD standard now, adoption of Blu-ray on laptops is still far from ubiquitous. This is partly a cost concern, since Blu-ray drives still cost more than DVD, but also because most laptops are ill-equipped to take full advantage of high definition content due to small displays and resolutions. There are some rough edges to the Samsung R620, particularly due its poor audio output, but with its Blu-ray drive, excellent balance of features and competent performance, it offers outstanding value if a Blu-ray laptop is high on your wish list.

Samsung is known for its range of well-priced and well-made laptops, and the R620 is an affordable 16-inch media centre that sits towards the top of the company’s range. If you’re in the market for a multimedia laptop, you could do a lot worse than the R620. Well-made, attractive and with a good feature set for the money, it’s an impressive machine. Only its mediocre 3D performance lets it down, but at this price it’s hard to complain

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330: Lager geklokte Radeon 4530 met een stroomverbruik van 7 Watt (volgens AMD). Ondersteund DirectX 10.1 en Avivo HD voor HD video versnelling.

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Dit is de Core Duo, de opvolger van de Core Solo met een langere pipeline en 5-20% meer snelheid zonder een hoger stroomverbruik. Als een aanvulling op het Core Duo ontwerp zit er een vierde decoder op, een versterkte SSE-unit en een extra reken-, logische unit (ALU).
De Core 2 Duo voor laptops is identiek aan de desktop Core 2 Duo processors maar de notebook-processors werken met een lagere spanning en een lagere Frontside bus klok. De prestatie van gelijk-geklokte notebooks is 20-25% lager dan Desktop PCs vanwege de lagere Frontside bus klok en de langzamere harde schijf.

T6500: Instap niveau Penryn dual-core CPU met een level 2 cache van 2MB en een FSB van 800 MHz. Vergelijkbaar met de 6570 maar zonder VT-x.
