There's lots to like about the Samsung Q40: it's a neat and trim 12.1in laptop with a brushed aluminium finish that weighs a scant 1.2kg, making it worthy of the term ultraportable. The Samsung Q40 doesn't look as expensive as some models we've tried but it feels robust enough and you don't end up leaving telltale greasy finger marks all over it. More importantly, the Samsung Q40's keyboard is springy and responsive and the keys sufficiently large for the average user to tap away comfortably.
Samsung kits out the Samsung Q40 with Vista Home Premium running on a 1.2GHz Intel processor, a 60GB hard drive and 1GB of RAM. This resulted in a dreadful WorldBench speed score of just 26 – one of the poorest performance scores we’ve seen in quite some time. However, the Samsung Q40 is incredibly strong in other areas.

A great ultraportable for the price; small, stylish and lightweight, it's only a whisker away from the A List. You're buying a gorgeous, well-constructed notebook that performs all the tasks you'll need and is a pleasure to use. The only real sacrifice is the external rather than internal DVD writer. But let's not forget that Samsung bundles two batteries despite the low price. This is simply the best ultraportable we've seen for under £1,000.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is een geïntegreerde (onboard) grafische chip op de Mobile Intel 945GM chipset. Dit is een snellere kloksnelheid versie van de GMA 900.

Deze grafische kaarten voor notebooks zijn niet bruikbaar voor games. Als ze al games kunnen draaien, dan doen ze dat met grafische afwijkingen en heel lage framesnelheid. Voor gamers zijn deze chips ongeschikt! Kantoor en internet taken zijn, daarentegen, geen probleem voor deze GPUs.

Intel Core Solo: De single core versie van de Core Duo en opvolger van de Intel Pentium M; Vanwege de 65nm verminderde structuurbreedte ook minder stroomverbruik dan de Pentium M (maximaal 27 Watt); de prestatie is vergelijkbaar met  de gelijk-geklokte Pentium M (iets sneller vanwege een paar verbeteringen).

12.10": Deze schermdiagonaal is redelijk groot voor tablets maar klein voor subnotebooks. Sommige convertibles hebben ook dit formaat.

Grote schermformaten laten hogere resoluties toe. Details zoals letters zijn groter. Anderzijds is het energieverbruik lager bij kleine schermdiagonalen en de toestellen zijn kleiner, lichter en goedkoper.
