It provides the essentials with a large 6.6-inch display, dual rear cameras, and a user-replaceable 4,350mAh battery. Even though local storage is limited to 128GB, there's a microSD card slot under the back cover so you can store large files and capture unlimited photos and video content.

There are, however, some situations in which it would make a darned good choice, such as travellers heading off the beaten path or into places that are wet or dusty, where the armoured back and ability to swap batteries may come in handy. However, its drawbacks – the stripped-back camera, the low performance and the lack of fast Wi-Fi – mean that unless you need a second handset for those places, and you know you’ll use it often, then popping your usual phone, many of which now come with an IP68 rating, into a protective case may be a better option.

Don’t get us wrong, the battery in the Samsung Galaxy XCover7 will last 1 – 2 days, there’s no doubt about that. But the battery in other rugged smartphones often lasts a full week instead of a few days. Even this would be acceptable if the pricing is all right. However, the pricing details are not out yet but judging by the price of its predecessor, it will be a bit premium. This is where the dilemma is. At such price tags, rugged smartphones from other brands will have way better specs and features. So, if you need better specs and the best features, then the Samsung Galaxy XCover7 is not for you.

ARM Mali-G57 MP2:
Geïntegreerde grafische kaart uit het middensegment met 2 clusters. Gebaseerd op de Valhall architectuur.
Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

Dimensity 6100+: De Dimensity 6100 Plus is een SoC voor het lagere middensegment met een geïntegreerde 5G-modem. Hij bevat twee snelle ARM Cortex-A76 kernen op maximaal 2,2 GHz en zes energiezuinige Cortex-A55 kernen op maximaal 2 GHz. De specificaties zijn vergelijkbaar met de oude Dimensity 700 SoC en bijna identiek aan de 6020.
