De Asus ZenBook Pro Duo is de beste laptop met twee schermen tot nu toe. Met nadruk op dat laatste, want er zitten ook flink wat nadelen aan dit fraaie concept. Hoewel Asus handige software heeft gemaakt om het extra scherm te benutten, zijn er op dat vlak nog verbeterpunten en ontbreekt softwarematige ondersteuning van derden. Niet alleen het tweede scherm is opvallend, ook het primaire scherm maakt indruk dankzij het 4k-oledpaneel. Reken echter niet op perfecte kalibratie, het scherm geeft kleuren in de meeste situaties te fel weer. De laptop heeft snelle hardware, maar de koeling is niet in staat om die altijd optimaal tot zijn recht te laten komen. Ook had Asus een snellere of grotere ssd mogen kiezen gezien de hoge prijs. De ZenBook Pro Duo is een duur nicheproduct dat wel fraai en stevig is afgewerkt.

The Zenbook Pro Duo UX581 is not the kind of notebook a value-oriented buyer would get. But at the same time, if money is no object, this dual-screen computer is so unique and different than everything else out there that it might just make sense for some of you. In fact, Asus calls it "The laptop of tomorrow", and while that made me smirk at first, it might well be a glimpse into what's coming in the next few years. There's still plenty to perfect about this first generation, though, so for now, make sure you're fine with its quirks and throw in extended warranty, just in case...

Don't write the ZenBook Pro Duo off as a mere novelty without trying it. This may or may not be the future of laptops, but for creatives, multi-taskers, and the attentionally challenged, the second display quickly makes a case for itself. The question is how much you're willing to compromise to get it, with rubbish battery life and a giant chassis. This isn't perfect, and future dual-screen devices will find better ways to make the form factor work. But this is one hell of a first attempt.
