EN→NLThe rest of the specs are exactly what you expect from a modern $3,400 gaming laptop. The mini-LED display is plenty bright and colorful. The display has a special layer that keeps reflections and glare to a minimum, even in direct sunlight. Even with Dolby Vision for HDR support, for the amount you’re paying, I still miss the inky depths of an OLED display. The display can support up to a 240Hz refresh rate, which means that your games playing at up to 240 fps will look their best, though it lacks variable refresh rate, or VRR, to ensure there won’t be screen tearing issues or other visual glitches in games running far below that. I’ll admit, the ROG Strix Scar 18’s overt lighting and huge, empty keyboard didn’t leave the best first impression.

The 2025 Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 gets a redesign along with the significantly improved Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and your choice of NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti / 5080 /5090 dedicated graphics. This is Asus’ high end offering (there’s also a 16” size). It has a 2560 x 1600 mini LED Nebula HDR 240Hz G-Sync display with 2k dimming zones and backlight control, a tactile per key RGB keyboard, WiFi 7, Thunderbolt 5 and upgradable RAM and SSDs. The AniMe Vision LED animated strip on the lid is new for this model.

Yes when you turn the RGB lights on and bring the AniMe Vision display to life, it immediately transforms into a dynamic battle station that will carry you to victory. The price tag is definitely a bitter pill to swallow, but you can rest assured that you’re getting you’re money’s worth, especially in the long term.

To begin with, the large size is necessary to gain access to that awesome mini-LED display that’s as bright and colorful as any I’ve reviewed — and even better than most. And then the performance is also excellent, even if it’s not the fastest I’ve reviewed. It will keep up with everything you throw at it, from gaming to creative workflows, without breaking a sweat. It’s not inexpensive, but that’s not to be expected with such a well-designed gaming machine.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop: Een snelle grafische kaart uit de Blackwell-familie voor laptops die is gebaseerd op de GB203-chip en gebruik maakt van 8.192 shaders en 16 GB GDDR7 grafisch geheugen (256-bits grafische bus).
Deze grafische kaarten zouden de meeste moderne spellen op een hoge resolutie en hoge details moeten kunnen draaien (enkele uitzonderingen zijn mogelijk).

Ultra 9 275HX: Mobiele high-end CPU voor gaming notebooks gebaseerd op de Arrow Lake architectuur. Biedt 24 cores, bestaande uit 8 snelle cores met een kloksnelheid tot 5,4 GHz en 16 kleinere efficiënte cores met een kloksnelheid tot 4,6 GHz. De CPU heeft toegang tot 40 MB L2 cache en 36 MB L3 cache en heeft een TDP van 55 watt. De SoC bevat een kleine speciale NPU genaamd AI Boost met 13 TOPS (Int8) en ondersteunt optioneel vPro Essentials.

Grote schermformaten laten hogere resoluties toe. Details zoals letters zijn groter. Anderzijds is het energieverbruik lager bij kleine schermdiagonalen en de toestellen zijn kleiner, lichter en goedkoper.
