The Turbobook GX600 is a mixed bag. It's great for anyone who does CPU-intensive work, as its overclocking feature works brilliantly and vastly improves core performance. Its graphics performance is rather average, however, so anyone who plays games might be better off with an Alienware M9750 or Dell XPS M1730.

The good: The MSI GX600 has a distinctive case design; slim profile; Turbo button gives slight performance boost; beautiful nonreflective display with a sharp resolution; Webcam; HDMI output; eSata connector; 802.11n support. The bad: Some half-size keys make typing difficult; pokey multitasking performance; frame rates suitable only to the casual gamer; mediocre battery life. The bottom line: The MSI GX600's snazzy case looks like a powerhouse gaming laptop, but its performance is better suited to the casual gamer.

The MSI GX600 is a "compact" 15.4" gaming notebook with a 512MB NVIDIA 8600M GT graphics card, and an overclockable Intel T7300 Core 2 Duo processor. This notebook offers a wide range of ports including HDMI, e-SATA, MCX for TV-Antenna, VGA, S-Video, four USB ports, one Firewire port, and LAN/Modem jacks to cover almost any device you have laying around. Probably the coolest feature which I have not seen since my 20Mhz 486 desktop is a Turbo button to overclock the machine on the fly to bump the processor speed from 2.0GHz to 2.4GHz without a restart. As you might expect with most gaming notebooks, the MSI GX600 likes to be stick out in a crowd. With its glossy black finish, flame decals, and huge MSI logo front and center it really gets noticed compared to other notebooks. The only feature that seemed to be missing was big LEDs to light up the logo, which most lecturers will love not being in their classroom.

What does it mean to be a gamer? This is a question that is probably best left to our colleagues over at GameAxis for an in-depth discussion, but an unmistakable trend is that computer and video games have gone mainstream now. The gaming audience as a whole has increased substantially, but it would seem from MSI's design that they're focusing on the younger. If you're a big fan of the Need for Speed series or Fast and Furious, the GX600 may appeal.
For most consumers, we find its design may be a little too loud and crass to be carrying around. Although MSI probably wanted to make it clear that the GX600 is really meant for gaming, in our opinion, the designers overdid it.

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT is de capabele opvolger van de GeForce Go 7600 GT voor laptops die in staat is DirectX 10 te draaien. Afhankelijk van het gebruikte grafische geheugen en de kloksnelheid, is de prestatie tussen die van de 7600 GT en 7900 GS video kaart. Daarom kunnen huidige spellen zoals Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander, or F.E.A.R vloeiend gespeeld worden in een resolutie van 1024 of vergelijkbaar. Gamers die altijd supersnelle frame rates verwachten, moeten geduld hebben tot de 8800 series van NVidia verschijnt.

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Dit is de Core Duo, de opvolger van de Core Solo met een langere pipeline en 5-20% meer snelheid zonder een hoger stroomverbruik. Als een aanvulling op het Core Duo ontwerp zit er een vierde decoder op, een versterkte SSE-unit en een extra reken-, logische unit (ALU).
De Core 2 Duo voor laptops is identiek aan de desktop Core 2 Duo processors maar de notebook-processors werken met een lagere spanning en een lagere Frontside bus klok. De prestatie van gelijk-geklokte notebooks is 20-25% lager dan Desktop PCs vanwege de lagere Frontside bus klok en de langzamere harde schijf.

T9300: De T9300 is een snelle dual core processor uit het middensegment voor laptops en is vergelijkbaar met de T9400 maar heeft een lagere FSB.

MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI) werd in 1986 opgericht in Taiwan. MSI is vooral bekend als fabrikant van moederborden en grafische kaarten voor pc's, maar biedt ook computeraccessoires, complete systemen, moederborden, grafische kaarten, laptops, desktop-pc's, monitoren en andere componenten. De merknaam Microstar behoort in Duitsland echter toe aan het bedrijf Medion. MSI staat bekend om zijn gamingproducten en heeft een breed scala aan gaminglaptops en desktop-pc's ontwikkeld.
