Taunted as a multimedia portable notebook, this machine performs well and comes packed with attractive gadgets and design in Fusion Finish with Sonic Pattern in Black Onyx. I am not sure about the portability claim, since it is quite heavy to lug around. The 18.4" is clear and offers nice viewing, a bit disappointed with the resolution of 1680x945 and 720p. Good price system for a large screen not-so-portable notebook.

It's hard to believe that it's possible to get a laptop with an 18-inch screen for less than $550 and have it be worth buying, too. But here's the Toshiba Satellite P505D-S8930: a massive notebook with a large, wide-screen display, AMD dual-core processor, plenty of memory, and a decently large hard drive, wrapped up in a fairly good-looking chassis. Too bad the performance and reasonable battery life are so lacking. The Toshiba Satellite P505D-S8930 is perfect if you need a large-screen portable computer, but you're not too much of a multitasker or in need of a long battery life.

Big-screen desktop replacement laptops are one of the greatest sources of highway robbery in the entire retail computer-shopping world. It's always tempting to gravitate to a massive 18-inch model flooded with LED lights and dream of a superpowered experience, especially when the price is reasonable. However, buyers beware. The Toshiba Satellite P505D-S8007 may look like a sleek big-screen laptop, but underneath it has some seriously hobbled performance compared with its competitors.

Toshiba: Toshiba Corporation is een Japans conglomeraat of technologiegroep. Het bedrijf werd opgericht in 1939 en in 1978 werd Toshiba de officiële bedrijfsnaam. De producten en diensten van het bedrijf omvatten energie, industriële en sociale infrastructuursystemen, liften en roltrappen, elektronische componenten, halfgeleiders, harde schijven, printers, batterijen, verlichting, logistiek en informatietechnologie. Toshiba was een van de grootste fabrikanten van personal computers, consumentenelektronica, huishoudelijke apparaten en medische apparatuur.

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

ATI Radeon HD 3200: Onboard (gedeeld geheugen) grafische chip (op RS780M chipset) gebaseerd op de HD 2400 chip. Beschikt ook over de UVD video engine om HD video’s te decoderen. Voor de rest ondersteunt de kaast Hybrid CrossfireX (voor versnelling) en PowerXpress (om energie te besparen) in combinatie met een dedicated grafische kaart (van de HD 3000 serie).

ATI Radeon HD 4200: De AMD ATI (Mobility Raedeon HD 4200 is een onboard (gedeeld geheugen) videokaart (RS880M chipset). Hij is gebaseerd op de HD 3400 core en ondersteund de UVD 2 video engine om HD video's te decoderen (Avivo HD - kan twee HD streams tegelijkertijd verwerken).
Vergeleken met de oude HD 3200, ondersteund de 4200 nu DirectX 10.1 en de UVD2 video decoder.

AMD Turion X2:

RM-74: Griffin gebaseerde instapniveau dual core processor. De cores zijn nog gebaseerd op de oude K8 architectuur (geheugen controller is nieuwer).
