Touchbook. De Iconia is de Ferrari in Acer's tablet campagne. Wij zien hem meer als een tank. Het gewicht en de afmetingen komen totaal niet in de buurt van een licht, draagbaar apparaat. Toch werkt het besturingsconcept van opvouwbare tablets.

Unlike a lot of other unique proof-of-concept laptops, the Acer Iconia is fun to use and largely works as advertised. But it has a hard time answering the most frequent question we hear about it: why would anyone need a dual-touch-screen laptop?

EN→NLThe Acer Iconia is definitely on trend with tons of social and sharing features built directly into the interface, along with touchscreen capabilities, which makes dragging, dropping, and sharing simple. That said, a touchscreen laptop does pose a certain number of problems when it comes to normal day-to-day procedures. Aside from the coolness of Facebooking on one screen while watching a movie, if you instead decide to type something up, there is a certain learning curve required to master the virtual touchscreen keyboard. The longer the document, the more errors you may make as you begin to rest your hands on letters rather than traditional keyboard space.

EN→NLAcer is positioning the Iconia as a lifestyle product, with more 10, 7 and 5-inch versions and potentially (although Acer couldn’t confirm this) on other operating systems. At the moment it’s quite hard to see who would buy the Iconia in this incarnation. While we like the Acer Ring interface, at £1400 it’s very expensive and we’re not convinced it adds enough to what is basically a Windows 7 laptop to justify the cost. Our time with the Iconia was brief, but we’ll bring you a full review as soon as possible.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics:
Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

480M: De Core i5-480M heeft slechts een 3MB L3 Cache (vergeleken met de i7-620M) en is geklokt van 2,66 tot 2,9 GHz (Turbo mode). Dankzij Hyperthreading kunnen 4 threads gelijktijdig verwerkt worden. In deze processor zit een geïntegreerde videokaart (GMA HD) en een DDR3 geheugen controller.

14.0": 14 inch scherm grootte is een mengeling tussen het kleine subnotebook formaat en het 15 inch standaard scherm. De reden waarom zoveel mensen schermen kiezen van een gemiddeld formaat, is dat deze maat niet vermoeiend voor de ogen is, niet al te veel stroom verbruikt en dat de laptops redelijk compact blijven.

2.73 kg: Het gewicht van deze laptop is bovengemiddeld vergeleken met de meeste andere notebooks.
Acer: Acer Incorporated is een Taiwanese electronica fabrikant. Hun productlijn bevat zowel desktop computers als laptops, personal digital assistants (PDA’s), servers en opslag, schermen, randapperatuur, en e-business services voor bedrijven, overheid, scholen en thuisgebruikers. Acer is de derde grootste computer fabrikant in de wereld (op vlak van verkopen) na HP en Dell Inc. Het bedrijf heeft een eigen fabriek in Taipei, Taiwan. Hun orginele naam was Multitech, opgericht in 1976. Gateway en Pacard Bell zijn economisch met Acer verbonden.
