Like the slow hard drive, getting Windows Starter is an example of the way the NB550 isn't a particularly well balanced system. Putting something more powerful than the Atom into a netbook form factor reveals that there are other disadvantages to the netbook than the middling performance. The small screen and keyboard are actually a better match for a processor that doesn't encourage you to use more demanding programs; the C-50 processor makes you want to do more and we'd like to see it in something more like a 12-inch ultraportable with a fast hard drive. With this performance and battery life and at this price, the Toshiba N550 is a winner; what's disappointing is that it could be rather more.

The small screen and keyboard are actually a better match for a processor that doesn't encourage you to use more demanding programs; the C-50 processor makes you want to do more and we'd like to see it in something more like a 12-inch ultraportable with a fast hard drive. With this performance and battery life and at this price, the Toshiba N550 is a winner; what's disappointing is that it could be rather more.

Tablets such as the Asus Transformer or iPad 2 are the place to look for really interesting portable computers at the moment, and laptop prices have fallen so far that you can get a real machine for not a lot more. Toshiba: Toshiba Corporation is een multinational conglomeraat productiebedrijf, hun hoofdkantoor is gevestigd in Japan. De hoofdtakken van het bedrijf zijn infrastructuur, consumenten producten, electronica toestellen en onderdelen. Toshiba’s halfgeleiders horen thuis in de wereldwijde top 20 halfgeleider producenten. Toshiba is een van de grootste internationale laptop fabrikant. Verscheidene testrapporten zijn beschikbaar.
Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

AMD C-Series:
C-30: Single-core zuinige processor met geïntegreerde grafische kaart. Door de lage kloksnelheid, zal de CPU langzamer zijn dan een single-core Atom CPU, maar biedt een snellere geïntegreerde GPU met HD video ondersteuning.
C-60: Dual-core zuinige processor met een geïntegreerde grafische kaart. Door de lage kloksnelheid zal de CPU slechts zo snel zijn als een single-core Atom CPU, maar biedt een snellere geïntegreerde GPU.
10.1: De notebook heeft een heel klein en ongebruikelijk schermformaat voor Subnotebooks. Het voordeel is dat de subnotebook bescheiden afmetingen heeft en deze kan makkelijk vervoerd worden. Het kleine scherm heeft verder het voordeel dat het weinig stroom behoeft wat de batterijlooptijd vergroot en daardoor ook de mobiliteit. Het nadeel is dat het lezen van tekst erg vermoeiend is aan de ogen. Hoge resoluties kunnen nauwelijks gebruikt worden.
