Everyone who saw it in our Test Centre despised the colour, wishing instead for black or white (or even the champagne colour that adorns part of the base). The Sony VAIO CW Series (VPCCW15FGW) notebook is quite stylish and comfortable to use. We like its keyboard and also the software that comes preinstalled on it, but it could use better connectivity options such as eSATA and a full-sized ExpressCard/54 slot.

EN→NL Archive.org versionThe Sony VAIO CW is a fantastic laptop, especially given the price. It’s stylish, powerful and portable. There are few compromises made. I’d certainly love it if the laptop were thinner and lighter, but then you wouldn’t get an optical drive built in and it would be harder for Sony to put those powerful components inside. For a student looking for a portable laptop that will not be outdated in 2-years and that offers all the power you need to get your school work done and also enjoy some entertainment in the form of multimedia and some light gaming, the VAIO CW fits the bill. Highly recommended!

Sony: Sony Corporation is een van de grootste Japanse elektronicabedrijven. Het bedrijf werd in 1946 opgericht onder een andere naam en produceerde aanvankelijk rijstkokers. Het bedrijf lanceerde de eerste transistorradio. In 1958 werd het bedrijf omgedoopt tot Sony. Sony is een combinatie van het Latijnse woord sonus (geluid) en het Engelse woord sonny (kleine jongen). Tegenwoordig is de core business consumentenelektronica. Het bedrijf houdt zich bezig met de ontwikkeling, het ontwerp, de fabricage en de verkoop van elektronische apparatuur, instrumenten, apparaten, gameconsoles en software. Sony is actief in de volgende segmenten: gaming- en netwerkdiensten, muziek, afbeeldingen, home entertainment en geluid, beeldproducten en -oplossingen, mobiele communicatie, halfgeleiders, financiële diensten en andere.
De meeste niet-veeleisende huidige games kunnen vloeiend draaien. Wees voorbereid op verminderde grafische weergave door lage detailinstellingen en lage resoluties. Toch verschaffen deze kaarten voldoende prestatie voor kantoor taken en video bekijken (niet voor HD videos).
NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M: De nVidia GeForce GT 230M is een DirectX 10.1 videokaart voor laptops gebaseerd op de GT216 core. Het is de opvolger van de GT 130M en technisch gezien een hoger geklokte GT 230M. Door de 48 shader cores zou hij merkbaar beter moeten presteren dan de GT 130M en door het 40nm productie proces zou het stroomverbruik gelijk blijven.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M: De nVidia Geforce GT 330M is de opvolger van de GT 230M en is volgens de uitgelekte technische specificaties een hoger geklokte GT 240M (maar nog steeds met het stroomverbruik van een GT 230M , zoals de naam suggereert).
Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.
NVIDIA GeForce G210M: De nVidia GeForce G 210M is een DirectX 10.1 videokaart voor laptops gebaseerd op de GT218 core. Net als zijn voorganger heeft hij 16 shaders maar zijn de kloksnelheden drastisch verhoogt. Door het 40nm productie proces zou het stroomverbruik gelijk blijven.
De core van de G 210M wordt intern GT218 genoemd en is volgens nVidia gebaseerd op de huidige high-end desktop architectuur (GTX 200 series).
NVIDIA GeForce 310M: De GeForce 310M is de opvolger van de GeForce G210M en gebaseerd op dezelfde chip met erg gelijkaardige kloksnelheden (shader snelheid +30MHz, naar 1530MHz).

Intel Core 2 Duo: Dit is de Core Duo, de opvolger van de Core Solo met een langere pipeline en 5-20% meer snelheid zonder een hoger stroomverbruik. Als een aanvulling op het Core Duo ontwerp zit er een vierde decoder op, een versterkte SSE-unit en een extra reken-, logische unit (ALU).
De Core 2 Duo voor laptops is identiek aan de desktop Core 2 Duo processors maar de notebook-processors werken met een lagere spanning en een lagere Frontside bus klok. De prestatie van gelijk-geklokte notebooks is 20-25% lager dan Desktop PCs vanwege de lagere Frontside bus klok en de langzamere harde schijf.
P7450: Instap niveau Core 2 Duo processor met een Level 2 Cache van 3MB en door zijn TDP van 25 Watt geschikt voor 13" laptops.
T6600: Instap niveau Core 2 Duo dual core processor met een 2MB kleine level 2 cache, en zonder virtualisatie functies.
P8700: Mid-range dual core processor met 3MB level 3 cache en een TDP van 25 Watt.
Intel Core i3:
330M: De Core i3-330M is een trager geklokte 350M en heeft geen Turbo Boost functie. De maximum kloksnelheid is 2,13 GHz. Dankzij Hyperthreading kunnen er 4 threads gelijktijdig uitgevoerd worden. Een geïntegreerde videokaart (GMA HD 3150) en een DDR3 geheugen controller zitten bij in processor verwerkt.
