Amazon's Fire HD 10 verschilt wat van gewone tablets. Het toestel heeft geen standaard versie van Android als besturingssysteem, maar een modificatie, Fire OS, dat volledig gericht is op Amazon-services. Gebruikers die regelmatig aankopen doen bij Amazon zullen in de Fire HD 10 hun perfecte shopping-metgezel vinden.

Amazon's betaalbare Fire HD 10 heeft meer dan genoeg rekenkracht voor multimediagebruik. Niet iedereen zal echter van Amazon's leiband houden.

Wie niets geeft om Amazon kan toch tevreden zijn met de Fire HD. De koper krijgt een prima uitgeruste tablet met een helder IPS-paneel, snelle dual-band Wi-Fi, verrassend goed klinkende stereo-luidsprekers en degelijke batterijduur voor een redelijke prijs van 200 euro (~$218). De MediaTek MT8135 in de Fire HD 10 is niet de snelste SoC, maar biedt meer dan genoeg rekenkracht voor games en alledaagse taken. De Fire HD 10 kan daarom zeker aanbevolen worden als betaalbare tablet om te surfen, e-mailen en voor multimediagebruik. Het is zelfs mogelijk om wat losser te komen van Amazon's leiband aan de Fire HD 10. Via een kleine omweg kan Fire OS ervan overtuigd worden om Google Services te installeren, waaronder Google's Play Store, die veel meer apps in de aanbieding heeft dan de Amazon app-shop.

De voor een 10-inch-tablet weinig indrukwekkende resolutie van 1280x800 pixels en de op zijn best middelmatige camera-modules, die fotograferen niet bepaald plezierig maken, zijn enkele minpunten van de Fire HD 10. Bovendien ondersteunt de Fire HD 10 geen NFC, GSM/UMTS of LTE, heeft het toestel geen GPS en dien je hem zacht te behandelen - de erg gevoelige achterkant is helaas veel te gemakkelijk te ontsieren met krassen.
