But dig just below the surface and you'll find above-average performance for this desktop replacement. Currently available at Staples, the 17R-2211OBK provides the standard features you'll find in any number of 17.3-inch laptops, but where it excels is in performance. Other than that, there's not much that makes the 17R-2211OBK standout from the competition. As long as performance isn't your top priority, you can find more feature-rich laptops for not much more than what the 17R-2211OBK sells for.

The add-on SE standing for “Special Edition” refers to the extra performance reserves as well as the high quality components in contrast to the standard Inspiron 17R.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y580, on the other hand, delivers similar performance, has a stronger battery, and it comes with a Blu-ray drive, which is why it remains our Editors' Choice for media laptops.

It's doubly surprising, as we've talked about the latest generation of Dell Inspiron laptops at some length, usually to point out how thin and attractive they are, at least for budget-minded laptops. Dell's Inspiron 17R SE packs reasonably high-end parts into a budget-feeling chassis, saving a few hundred dollars or more over similarly configured laptops.

Je weet dat er iets niet klopt als zelfs een geïntegreerde Vega 8 beter presteert dan een discrete Radeon-GPU. De Inspiron 17 3780 beschikt dan wel over de nieuwste Intel Whiskey Lake-U-CPU, maar de beslissing om de CPU te combineren met een verouderde Radeon 520 is op zijn minst opmerkelijk te noemen.

It does exactly what it is supposed to as a home multimedia laptop and even gives you the opportunity to do some developer work if you pair it with enough memory. We were more impressed, however, by the IPS panel (AUO B173HAN01.3 (AUO139D)) of this laptop. In fact, we were happy to see an IPS display on a device like this in general, and after we did our lab tests on it we can declare that it is one of the best panels for a budget 17-incher. It is very bright, has a decent contrast ratio, its viewing angles are excellent and it doesn’t use PWM to adjust screen brightness. On top of that, it covers 93% of sRGB and with the help of our Gaming and Web design profile it gets right on par with the appropriate dE standard for design work.

EN→NLIt's a shame the Inspiron 17 3000 lacks a USB-C port, but otherwise this laptop does what it sets out to do. It doesn't skimp with 4GB of RAM or a chintzy 1,366-by-768 display. It doesn't pretend to be very portable or game-worthy, but it gives you a big, if not dazzling screen, a DVD drive, and capable performance.

Dell: Dell is een Amerikaanse fabrikant (gevestigd in Texas) van computerhardware, opgericht in 1984 en is een van de grootste internationale fabrikanten, zowel qua marktaandeel als qua notebookmodellen. De productlijn omvat desktops, notebooks, opslagsystemen, monitors, servers, printers, consumentenelektronica en randapparatuur. Dell biedt laptops die geschikt zijn voor verschillende toepassingen, zoals zakelijke laptops, gaming laptops, ultra portables en werkstations. De zakelijke laptops uit de Latitude en Precision series van Dell zijn een optie voor professionele gebruikers en bedrijven.
In 2023 had Dell een marktaandeel van ongeveer 17% in de wereldwijde verkoop van pc's en stond daarmee op de derde plaats, na Lenovo en HP.
Voor gameliefhebbers is er Dell's Alienware merk voor gaming notebooks.
Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics:
Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M: Mid-range GPU en het snelste GeForce GT model uit de 600M serie.
AMD Radeon 520:
Instap grafische kaart met 320 (5 compute-units), 2 GB GDDR5 grafisch geheugen en een 64-bit-geheugenbus. Maakt gebruik van dezelfde chip als de oude Radeon R7 M230, M340, M440 en bv. Radeon R7 M445 (28nm GCN).
Intel UHD Graphics G1 (Ice Lake 32 EU):
De meeste niet-veeleisende huidige games kunnen vloeiend draaien. Wees voorbereid op verminderde grafische weergave door lage detailinstellingen en lage resoluties. Toch verschaffen deze kaarten voldoende prestatie voor kantoor taken en video bekijken (niet voor HD videos).
Intel HD Graphics 4000: Processor grafische kaart in high-end Ivy Bridge modellen. Biedt verschillende kloksnelheden voor verschillende CPU modellen (ULV tot desktop quad-core) en levert daardoor verschillende prestaties.

450M: Vergelijkbaar met de Core i5-520M maar zonder AES ondersteuning.
3210M: Snelle Ivy-Bridge dual-core, met HD 4000 Graphics en een kloksnelheid van 2.5 - 3.1 GHz
Intel Core i7:
3610QM: Een Ivy Bridge quad-core processor met een kloksnelheid van 2.3 GHz met Turbo Boost ondersteuning tot 3.3 GHz. Heeft een geïntegreerde 4000 GPU die op 650-1100 MHz draait op een dual-channel DDR3 geheugencontroller.
i7-8565U:
Whiskey Lake-gebaseerde energie-efficiënte quad-core-processor (technisch identiek aan Kaby Lake, maar geproduceerd in een verder geoptimaliseerd 14nm++ proces). De vier cores zijn geklokt tussen 1.8 en 4.6 GHz (Turbo Boost) en ondersteunen HyperThreading.

Dit gewicht is representatief voor laptops met een 15 inch schermdiagonaal.
3.3 kg:
Normaal hebben laptops met een 17 inch schermdiagonaal dit gewicht. Dit is redelijk zwaar voor een 15 inch laptops maar aanvaardbaar voor toestellen bedoeld voor stationair gebruik.
