Dell's Inspiron 15R is a fairly good value for those looking at getting a strong performing laptop with some extra hard drive space. For under $1000, it certainly has features that are equal to much of the competition. Be warned that the graphics are not Direct X 11 compatible even though it carries a naming similar to ATI's latest. Dell also doesn't offer the same level of customization that they did in the past laptops.

The a base configuration priced at $499 might not be as impressive as the system we reviewed which is almost $400 more expensive, but even the less expensive model packs enough punch to more than satisfy the technology demands of a typical family. If you need a notebook with a little extra muscle then the Intel Core i5 processor and optional AMD Radeon 6470M graphics should handle all but the most graphically intense modern games. I would have liked to see a backlit keyboard option as well as higher resolution screen options such as 1920 x 1080 or 1600 x 900 ... but those are pretty minor complaints for a budget notebook.

I would have liked to see a backlit keyboard option as well as higher resolution screen options such as 1920 x 1080 or 1600 x 900 ... but those are pretty minor complaints for a budget notebook.

Dell: Dell is een Amerikaanse fabrikant (gevestigd in Texas) van computerhardware, opgericht in 1984 en is een van de grootste internationale fabrikanten, zowel qua marktaandeel als qua notebookmodellen. De productlijn omvat desktops, notebooks, opslagsystemen, monitors, servers, printers, consumentenelektronica en randapparatuur. Dell biedt laptops die geschikt zijn voor verschillende toepassingen, zoals zakelijke laptops, gaming laptops, ultra portables en werkstations. De zakelijke laptops uit de Latitude en Precision series van Dell zijn een optie voor professionele gebruikers en bedrijven.
In 2023 had Dell een marktaandeel van ongeveer 17% in de wereldwijde verkoop van pc's en stond daarmee op de derde plaats, na Lenovo en HP.
Voor gameliefhebbers is er Dell's Alienware merk voor gaming notebooks.
De meeste niet-veeleisende huidige games kunnen vloeiend draaien. Wees voorbereid op verminderde grafische weergave door lage detailinstellingen en lage resoluties. Toch verschaffen deze kaarten voldoende prestatie voor kantoor taken en video bekijken (niet voor HD videos).
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 550v: Een lager geklokte HD 4650 (gebaseerd op dezelfde chip) en ook wel geduid als de Mobility Radeon HD 4630 grafische kaart dat nog steeds geproduceerd wordt in 55nm en de chip ondersteund ook DirectX 10.1.
Intel HD Graphics 4000: Processor grafische kaart in high-end Ivy Bridge modellen. Biedt verschillende kloksnelheden voor verschillende CPU modellen (ULV tot desktop quad-core) en levert daardoor verschillende prestaties.
Intel HD Graphics 4400: ULV geïntegreerde grafische GPU (GT2) met 20 EU's die je aantreft op sommige Haswell CPU modellen.
Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics:
Intel HD Graphics 3000: Aankomende (1ste kwartaal 2011) geïntegreerde grafische kaart van de Intel Sandy Bridge processoren (Core ix-2xxx). De 3000 / 200 is de snellere, intern GT2 genaamde, versie met 12 Execution Units (EU's).
Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.
AMD Radeon HD 7670M: Hernoemde Radeon HD 6650M en dan ook nog steeds geproduceerd op 40nm.
AMD Radeon HD 8730M: Middenklasse grafische kaart gebaseerd op de GCN architectuur.

Intel Core i5:
460M: De Intel Core i5-460M is een high-end dual core CPU voor laptops en heeft een kloksnelheid van 2,53 GHz tot 2,8 GHz (door Turbo Mode). Elke Core is gebaseerd op de Nehalem (Westmere) micro architectuur. Hyperthreading zorgt er voor dat deze Dual Core CPU toch vier threads gelijktijdig kan verwerken. Vergeleken met de Core i5-540M, ondersteund de 460M geen AES, VT-d en Trusted Execution functies en is hij na de inschakeling van Turbo Boost minder snel (2,8 versus 3,06 GHz).
3210M: Snelle Ivy-Bridge dual-core, met HD 4000 Graphics en een kloksnelheid van 2.5 - 3.1 GHz
2450M: Dual-core processor gebaseerd op de Sandy Bridge architectuur met een geïntegreerde grafische chip en dual-channel DDR3 geheugencontroller. De CPU is geklokt op 2.5 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.8-3.1 GHz) en de GPU op 650 MHz (1300 MHz Turbo Boost).
3317U: Ivy-Bridge ULV-CPU uit Q2 2012. Heeft een kloksnelheid van 1.7 - 2.6 GHz en een HD 4000 GPU (350 - 1050 MHz). Het TDP staat op 17 watt.
Intel Core i3:
2330M: Dual-core processor gebaseerd op de Sandy Bridge-architectuur met een geïntegreerde grafische chip en dual-channel DDR3-geheugencontroller. De CPU is geklokt op 2.2 GHz en beschikt enkel voor de grafische kaart over Turbo Boost 2.0 (650/1100 MHz).
2370M: Dual-core processor gebaseerd op de Sandy Bridge architectuur met een geïntegreerde grafische chip en dual-channel DDR3 geheugencontroller. De CPU is geklokt op 2.4 GHz en heeft Turbo Boost 2.0 enkel voor de grafische chipset.
3217U: Ivy-Bridge ULV-CPU uit Q2 2012. Heeft een kloksnelheid van 1.8 (geen Turbo Boost) en een HD 4000 GPU (350 - 1050 MHz). Het TDP staat op 17 watt.
Intel Core i7:
4500U: Haswell ULV dual-core processor met een kloksnelheid van 1.8 GHz, die dankzij Turbo Boost kan oplopen tot 3.0 GHz. Beschikt over een geïntegreerde HD Graphics 4400 GPU en dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
3537U: Snelle ULV-CPU gebaseerd op de Ivy Bridge in Q1 2013. Heeft een kloksnelheid van 2.0 - 3.1 GHz en een HD 4000 GPU (350 - 1200 MHz). Het verbruik (TDP) staat op 17 watt.
