At the end of the day the ASUS ZenBook Pro UX501JW is one of the nicest premium Windows notebooks you’ll find in stores this year … but it isn’t perfect and we think it’s fair to look for perfection when you’re paying more than $1500 for a laptop. When other premium 15-inch systems like the Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro and the MSI PE60 Prestige offer similar performance for between $500 and $700 less we start to have trouble justifying the higher price of the ZenBook Pro even if this notebook has a nicer screen and more durable build quality. If 4K resolution and a premium fit and finish are things you must have in a 15-inch notebook then the UX501JW is an excellent choice.

De ASUS ZenBook UX501J is een fraaie 15inch-ultrabook die opvalt door zijn UHD-scherm dat tevens is voorzien van een aanraaklaag. Natuurlijk is de prijs van ongeveer 1750 euro niet heel laag, maar je krijgt er wel naast het scherm ook krachtige hardware voor terug. Zo is de ultrabook met een Core i7, SSD en NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M lekker snel. Het is kortom een fraaie ultrabook, maar een paar puntjes hadden wat mij betreft nog net wat beter gekund. Zo had de maximale helderheid wel wat hoger kunnen zijn en de werktijd van vijf uur zou ook wel minstens twee uurtjes langer mogen zijn. Als ASUS daarnaast de behuizing op de zwakke punten versterkt, zou de ZenBook Pro helemaal fraai zijn.

Overall whichever device you choose you will not make a mistake. Weather you are a fan of the sleek light Zen design, or prefer the more aggressive black and red style of the G501, both devices offer great design, premium feel and sturdy build, thanks to the great materials used. The two also have great performance for both serious work and gaming and the cooling systems are good enough to take the heat off during the heavy work process or some hard battle on the virtual battlefield. If you want touchscreen capabilities and a slightly better sound quality you should go for the ZenBook Pro, while if you want to be sure you will be able to play the upcoming AAA game titles with no problem or you do video editing and require some extra video memory – the Republic of Gamers notebook is your choice.

The Asus ZenBook Pro UX501 turns out to be one of the better premium laptops in the market. It offers high-end specifications usually found in more expensive laptops, which makes it great value. The 4K display is stunning and is superb for office and multimedia work. The SSD also delivers some of the fastest read-write speeds we've come across. Then, there's the aluminium build, powerful internals and decent battery life on top of all of that. Having a 4K resolution on such a small screen results in a few niggles. Not all applications adhere to Window's scaling guidelines so you might be forced to use apps at 100-percent resolution, where menus and text can get unreadably small. The lower bezel of the display also tends to get very hot, even without gaming. This isn't something you'll notice with regular use but we hope it doesn't have an adverse effect in the long run. Finally, the screen is quite reflective which makes it difficult to use under sunlight or even indoors, with artificial lighting behind you. Even maxing out the brightness level doesn't fix this.

The ASUS ZenBook UX550VE is a no-brainer if you are looking for an affordable Dell XPS 15 or Apple MacBook Pro 15 alternative but obviously, you will have to deal with some setbacks along the way like insufficient cooling capabilities, always running cooling fans and a bit flexible interior. In addition, you are stuck with only one M.2 SSD and no RAM chip slots – you have to deal only with the soldered memory. This is also true for the MacBook Pro 15 but we expected more from ASUS, come on…

Een compacte alleskunner die zwaar onderschat wordt. Echt een top laptop. Ik ben een muziek producer en hou dan ook van nummers in de trein maken (met natuurlijk een koptelefoon op), mede dankzij de accuduur heb ik deze laptop dan ook gekozen. Na een tijdje gegoogled te hebben kwam ik tot de conclusie dat dit theoretisch de perfecte laptop zou zijn. Toch zag ik een heleboel negatieve recensies over deze laptop op het internet staan en ik was er dan ook enorm over aan het twijfelen. Uiteindelijk toch maar gekocht en jeetje.

Ik heb deze laptop gekocht als toestel voor development, waarbij mobiliteit cruciaal was. Het toestel voelt stevig aan, is compact, stil, en gaat afhankelijk van het gebruik tussen de 90 minuten en 10 uur meer op een acculading. Kleine minpuntjes zijn de afwerking en het gebrek aan laden via USB-C.

Dit is een prima product voor de prijs. Een lichte laptop met goede prestaties, behalve dan de speakers. Het geluid van deze laptop is dramatisch, ik snap niet dat harman kardon daar zijn naam aan wil verbinden. Mijn telefoon (zuk-z2) geeft zelfs veel beter geluid.

De Zenbook Pro is Asus' snelste Zenbook, met een i7-processor en een GTX 1050 Ti-videokaart. Zowel power users en gamers kunnen er daardoor mee aan hun trekken komen. De prijs is helaas wel hoog en voor 2200 euro hadden we een nog betere laptop verwacht en niet een met een behuizing die te makkelijk meegeeft en een matig gekalibreerd scherm. De accuduur is met bijna elf uur tijdens browsen wel erg goed en de Zenbook Pro is ook geen slechte laptop, maar helaas wel te duur.

The second display isn’t always perfect, but having a functional small second monitor with your laptop at all times is a highly compelling proposition, works as intended most of the time, and is hard not to appreciate. We think the MacBook Pro and XPS 13 have the edge if you are looking for sheer performance for money, but if this two-screen design appeals to you, it’s well worth its reasonable price. The possible productivity advantage—and the cool factor—can't be measured in mere benchmarks.

Commentaar

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is een grote Taiwanese fabrikant van computerhardware gevestigd in Taipei, opgericht in 1989. Onder de merknaam Asus produceert het bedrijf een breed scala aan producten, waaronder laptops, desktops, moederborden, grafische kaarten, monitoren, smartphones en netwerkapparatuur, complete systemen en pc-onderdelen voor eindgebruikers.

Onder de merknaam ROG (Republic of Gamers) produceert ASUS gaming laptops die bij gamers bekend staan om hun krachtige specificaties, speciale grafische kaarten, schermen met hoge verversingssnelheid en geavanceerde koelsystemen.

Naast gaming wordt een breed scala aan notebooks aangeboden voor verschillende behoeften en budgetten, van ultraslanke en lichtgewicht ultrabooks tot veelzijdige 2-in-1 convertibles en budgetvriendelijke opties. In 2023 had Asus wereldwijd een marktaandeel van 7% op de pc-markt.

De klanttevredenheid over ASUS-notebooks heeft betrekking op de prestaties, de functies en de goede prijs-prestatieverhouding van ASUS-notebooks. Zoals bij elk merk zijn er echter af en toe meldingen van problemen zoals oververhitting, drivercompatibiliteit of problemen met de bouwkwaliteit.

Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

Snelle mid-range grafische kaart van de GeForce GTX 900M-serie, gebaseerd op de Maxwell-architectuur.

Mainstream grafische kaart gebaseerd op Nvidia's Pascal-architectuur en opvolger van de GeForce GTX 960M. Is gefabriceerd in een 14nm-proces bij Samsung en de technische specificaties zijn erg vergelijkbaar met de desktopversie.

Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs:

Geïntegreerde grafische kaart in Intel Tiger Lake G4 SoC's op basis van de nieuwe Gen. 12-architectuur met 96 EU's (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). De kloksnelheid is afhankelijk van het processormodel. De Tiger Lake chips worden geproduceerd in het moderne 10nm+ proces bij Intel.

Intel Core i7:

4720HQ:

Haswell-gebaseerde quad-core processor geklokt aan 2.6 GHz met ondersteuning voor Turbo Boost tot en met 3.6 GHz. Beschikt over een geïntegreerde HD Graphics 4600 GPU en een dual-channel DDR3-geheugencontroller.

De Intel Core i7-4720HQ is een high-end quad-core processor voor laptops. De CPU is gebaseerd op de Haswell-architectuur en gefabriceerd in 22nm. Dankzij Hyperthreading kunnen de vier cores tot en met acht threads in parallel aan, wat leidt tot een efficiënter gebruik van de CPU. Elke core biedt een basiskloksnelheid van 2.6 GHz maar kan dynamisch overklokt worden met Turbo Boost tot en met 3.4 GHz (voor 4 actieve cores), 3.5 GHz (voor 2 actieve cores) en 3.6 GHz (voor 1 actieve core). In vergelijking met de vorige i7-4710HQ, is de i7-4720HQ precies 100 MHz hoger geklokt.

Intel Kaby Lake:

i5-7300HQ:

Quad-core notebook-processor gebaseerd op de Kaby Lake-architectuur en geklokt aan 2.5 - 3.5 GHz zonder Hyper Threading (dat ondersteund wordt door de snellere i7-CPU's). De chip beschikt over een geïntegreerde HD Graphics 630 GPU geklokt aan 350 - 1000 MHz en is gefabriceerd in een 14nm-proces (verbeterd ten opzichte van Skylake).

Intel Coffee Lake:

i7-8750H:

Coffee-Lake-gebaseerde processor voor grote en zware laptops. Integreert zes processor-cores geklokt aan 2.2 - 4.1 GHz (4 GHz met 4 cores, 3.9 GHz met 6 cores) met ondersteuning voor HyperThreading. Gefabricreerd in een verbeterd 14nm-proces (14nm++).

Intel Tiger Lake:

i7-1165G7:

Tiger Lake gebaseerde low power quad-core processor voor dunne en lichte laptops. De vier kernen klok rond 2.8 - 4.7 GHz. Geproduceerd in 10nm+ bij Intel.
