Archive.org versionEen fysieke netwerkaansluiting ontbreekt (daar is de laptop net iets te dun voor), maar met het bijgeleverde verloopkabeltje kun je deze laptop via de usb 3.0-poort alsnog op een vaste netwerkaansluiting koppelen. Fijn dat de verloopadapter erbij is geleverd, dat zie je lang niet altijd. En wie gebruikmaakt van draadloos internet: deze laptop biedt de nieuwste wireless ac-standaard, alsmede 802.11b/g.

While I wish the UX501's battery lasted longer and its keyboard and trackpad were arranged differently, overall this notebook will more than deliver for creatives looking for an excellent display, with the power to drive it.

Despite it’s fragile looks, the notebook is sturdy and houses really powerful components suitable for gaming. In addition, the touchpad and keyboard are just flawless without any issues at all. Though, the material used for the making of the interior could have been aluminum as well, because other high-end notebooks like the MacBook Pro have the desired premium feel of the all-aluminum body. At least this doesn’t affect the overall sturdiness of the chassis.

What's more, the system's case looks as good as its screen. And it's a remarkable bargain at $1,499, when you consider the much higher prices of the MacBook Pro and XPS 15—or, for that matter, the Razer Blade, with which the UX501 almost kept pace in our benchmarks despite the Blade's higher price and gamer orientation.

But, beware the battery life: It's enough to get you through a few hours, but not enough for a laptop you're taking out for a whole day – or relying on at a conference, where outlets may be few and far between. This model's heavy weight is another detriment when it comes to portability.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M:
Snelle mid-range grafische kaart van de GeForce GTX 900M-serie, gebaseerd op de Maxwell-architectuur.
Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

4720HQ:
Haswell-gebaseerde quad-core processor geklokt aan 2.6 GHz met ondersteuning voor Turbo Boost tot en met 3.6 GHz. Beschikt over een geïntegreerde HD Graphics 4600 GPU en een dual-channel DDR3-geheugencontroller.
De Intel Core i7-4720HQ is een high-end quad-core processor voor laptops. De CPU is gebaseerd op de Haswell-architectuur en gefabriceerd in 22nm. Dankzij Hyperthreading kunnen de vier cores tot en met acht threads in parallel aan, wat leidt tot een efficiënter gebruik van de CPU. Elke core biedt een basiskloksnelheid van 2.6 GHz maar kan dynamisch overklokt worden met Turbo Boost tot en met 3.4 GHz (voor 4 actieve cores), 3.5 GHz (voor 2 actieve cores) en 3.6 GHz (voor 1 actieve core). In vergelijking met de vorige i7-4710HQ, is de i7-4720HQ precies 100 MHz hoger geklokt.

De klanttevredenheid over ASUS-notebooks heeft betrekking op de prestaties, de functies en de goede prijs-prestatieverhouding van ASUS-notebooks. Zoals bij elk merk zijn er echter af en toe meldingen van problemen zoals oververhitting, drivercompatibiliteit of problemen met de bouwkwaliteit.
79.71%: Dit cijfer is niet echt overtuigend. Het moet in acht worden genomen dat er bijna geen laptops zijn die een score onder de 60% hebben. Dit notebook is beneden gemiddeld beoordeeld, en is niet aanbevolen te kopen.
