Overall, we like the Asus Zenbook Prime UX32VD. Our small gripes aside, it's a strong performer with real graphics punch. The system looks great and its brushed metal chassis is classy. The backlit keyboard looks positively great in dark or low-light settings. We didn't have any trouble with heat while the system was on flat surfaces, and it didn't get uncomfortably warm during lap duty. Importantly, the UX32VD feels sturdy, despite being a very thin ultrabook.

All in all, even with a less-than-bodacious battery, the Zenbook Prime easily cops an Editors' Choice for its wonderful 1080p IPS screen, swift performance, and at least moderately game-worthy graphics. It's a premium-priced choice in the ultrabook arena, but it delivers a combination of cool design and potent productivity, especially for photo or video buffs, that'll be hard to top.

So what's the final verdict? The Asus Zenbook Prime UX32VD-DB71 is a very, very good system for content creators in the field. It's light, has a brilliant 1080p screen, and is compact. A photographer will enjoy the speedy photo editing capabilities of the system, video editors will love the Core i7 power of the system, and both will find the 500GB hard drive a good thing. The system will also keep multimedia power users happy, for mostly the same reasons plus the full-sized HDMI port in such a compact laptop.

The $1,299 ASUS Zenbook Prime UX32VD is sort of a niche Ultrabook for those not satisfied with Intel's graphics performance, and on that basis it succeeds. You get the same sweet 1080p IPS screen and rich Bang & Olufsen speakers as the UX31A, and Nvidia's GeForce GT 620M GPU provides enough muscle to play some of the most demanding games (albeit at lower resolutions).

NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M: 28nm Fermi verkleining. Onderkant middenklasse.

Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

3517U: Snelle Ivy-Bridge ULV-CPU uit Q2 2012. Heeft een kloksnelheid van 1.9 - 3.0 GHz en een HD 4000 GPU (350 - 1150 MHz). Het TDP staat op 17 watt.

13.3": Dit schermformaat zou een “groot subnotebook-formaat” genoemd kunnen worden. Het voordeel is dat de subnotebook bescheiden afmetingen heeft en deze kan makkelijk vervoerd worden. Het kleine scherm heeft verder het voordeel dat het weinig stroom behoeft wat de batterijlooptijd vergroot en daardoor ook de mobiliteit. Het nadeel is dat het lezen van tekst erg vermoeiend is aan de ogen. Hoge resoluties kunnen nauwelijks gebruikt worden.
