That may seem an obvious point, but it's apparently escaped Asus, as the K50's trackpad is covered in little indentations that add friction. You have to get used to moving the cursor with an extremely light touch. A mediocre machine with an overly glossy display and questionable ergonomics.

If you can accept that what you're getting is essentially a netbook with a larger screen and a built-in DVD writer, you may consider it worth the asking price. But, if you're looking for something with more normal laptop levels of responsiveness, we recommend you spend a little extra on something like the Lenovo B550, which is still cheap, but much faster.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is een grote Taiwanese fabrikant van computerhardware gevestigd in Taipei, opgericht in 1989. Onder de merknaam Asus produceert het bedrijf een breed scala aan producten, waaronder laptops, desktops, moederborden, grafische kaarten, monitoren, smartphones en netwerkapparatuur, complete systemen en pc-onderdelen voor eindgebruikers.
Onder de merknaam ROG (Republic of Gamers) produceert ASUS gaming laptops die bij gamers bekend staan om hun krachtige specificaties, speciale grafische kaarten, schermen met hoge verversingssnelheid en geavanceerde koelsystemen.
Naast gaming wordt een breed scala aan notebooks aangeboden voor verschillende behoeften en budgetten, van ultraslanke en lichtgewicht ultrabooks tot veelzijdige 2-in-1 convertibles en budgetvriendelijke opties. In 2023 had Asus wereldwijd een marktaandeel van 7% op de pc-markt.
De klanttevredenheid over ASUS-notebooks heeft betrekking op de prestaties, de functies en de goede prijs-prestatieverhouding van ASUS-notebooks. Zoals bij elk merk zijn er echter af en toe meldingen van problemen zoals oververhitting, drivercompatibiliteit of problemen met de bouwkwaliteit.
Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570: Terug te vinden in de lagere middenklasse GPU, heeft minder shaders en een 64 bit geheugen bus maar een hoge kloksnelheid. Vergelijkbaar met de desktop Radeon 4550. Ondersteunt Avivo HD en DirectX 10.1.
NVIDIA GeForce G 102M: Geïntegreerde chipset videokaart met dedicated geheugen (DDR2 of DDR3). De core is gebaseerd op de 9400M G kaart en ondersteunt PureVideo HD (VP3).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M: De Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (soms ook GMA X4500 HD genoemd) is een DirectX 10 onboard videokaart voor de GM45, GE45 en GS45 chipset van het Centrino 2 platform (Montevina). De chip heeft geen eigen geheugen, maar kan dynamisch gebruik maken van het RAM geheugen (tot 384MB).
NVIDIA GeForce GT 320M: De GT320M werd gepresenteerd in de HP dv6T en dv7t reeks en is gebaseerd op een kortgewiekte GT216 met slechts 24 shaders.
NVIDIA GeForce 310M: De GeForce 310M is de opvolger van de GeForce G210M en gebaseerd op dezelfde chip met erg gelijkaardige kloksnelheden (shader snelheid +30MHz, naar 1530MHz).

AMD Turion X2 Ultra:
ZM-84: Mengeling van twee K8 cores en K10 uncores (geheugen controller). Heeft betere energiebesparende functies ten opzichte van oudere Turion CPU's, maar nog niet zo goed en snel als Core 2 Duo CPU's. De ZM-84 is vergelijkbaar met de ZM-85 maar heeft een trager geklokte HT link.
Intel Core 2 Duo: Dit is de Core Duo, de opvolger van de Core Solo met een langere pipeline en 5-20% meer snelheid zonder een hoger stroomverbruik. Als een aanvulling op het Core Duo ontwerp zit er een vierde decoder op, een versterkte SSE-unit en een extra reken-, logische unit (ALU).
De Core 2 Duo voor laptops is identiek aan de desktop Core 2 Duo processors maar de notebook-processors werken met een lagere spanning en een lagere Frontside bus klok. De prestatie van gelijk-geklokte notebooks is 20-25% lager dan Desktop PCs vanwege de lagere Frontside bus klok en de langzamere harde schijf.
T6400: Instap niveau dual core processor gebaseerd op de Penryn Core met slechts 2MB level 2 cache en een lage kloksnelheid.
T6500: Instap niveau Penryn dual-core CPU met een level 2 cache van 2MB en een FSB van 800 MHz. Vergelijkbaar met de 6570 maar zonder VT-x.
Intel Pentium Dual Core: De naam Pentium is terug, maar een Yonah core. Double Core processor met een zeer goede verhouding tussen prestatie en stroomverbruik.
T4400: Onderaan de trap op het middensegment staat deze dual core processor met 1 MB level 2 cache en geen virtualisatie technologie. Vergeleken met de Core 2 Duo reeks zijn enkele energie besparingsmogelijkheden weggelaten.
AMD Turion X2:
RM-75: Griffin gebaseerde instapniveau dual core processor. De cores zijn nog gebaseerd op de oude K8 architectuur (geheugen controller is nieuwer).
Intel Celeron M: Dit is een Pentium M met gehalveerd level 2 Cache en beperkt op FSB 400. De eigenschappen van deze processor is de snelheid, die nauwelijks langzamer is dan een vergelijkbare Pentium M. Echter hij kan de snelheid niet dynamisch aanpassing zoals de Pentium M en heeft daarom zonder werkbelasting meer stroom nodig.
Hij is ook verkrijgbaar in een Low Voltage Version met zeer laag stroomverbruik.

Gewoonlijk hebben subnotebooks, ultrabooks en redelijk lichte laptops met een 12-16 inch schermdiagonaal dit gewicht.

Dit gewicht is typisch voor laptops met een 14-16 inch schermdiagonaal.
