Als we eerlijk moeten zijn vinden we de belfunctie een gimmick. Het is écht niet praktisch om een 7-inch tablet aan je oor te houden. Een vervanging voor je smartphone is deze FonePad dus niet. Maar goed, de 3G-verbinding is enorm praktisch voor mobiele data, dus kunnen we het moeilijk een nadeel noemen. Het bereik van de mobiele antenne en de gps-ontvanger zijn prima. Verder ondersteunt Asus nfc, wifi en bluetooth.

What will be our final decision for Fonepad is hard to say. Beside typical tablet usage it focuses on voice calls, which we found awkward when we tried to use it as a typical phone leaning it on ear. Poor voice quality doesn’t help the case, so our recommendation is the use of a Bluetooth headset. In the future, we would also like to see an accessory which will act as a dumb phone (form vise also) and via Bluetooth connect to Fonepad.

I wouldn't want to take a FonePad with me to my local pub for the evening or to a gig, and the absence of a suitable camera is going to become an issue at some point down the line. But the cash savings and the sheer convenience of having one device rather than two to carry and charge does have its attractions. I’m all for affordability and versatility, and the FonePad delivers both in spades. Which makes it the one of the very few budget tablets - the other being the Nexus 7 - I’d recommend to a friend.

It can run almost any app (albeit heavy apps like 3D games won’t run as well), has a pleasing and functional skin, similar battery life, plays Full HD videos, boasts of expandable storage and it doubles up as a phone. The camera is still a bit woeful although we do appreciate the inclusion of it and the fact that it’s auto-focus. The only major downside that we came across is the fact that it can get a little sluggish now and then. It isn't wonderfully practical to use as your everyday smartphone, either. But, even if you think the phone capabilities are little more than a daft frivolity, there's no denying the Fonepad packs a hell of punch for a budget tablet. If you're just looking for a 7in tablet, you'll find better elsewhere. We really liked Asus's £120 Memo Pad 7, and we also love the Nexus 7. Pair the Memo Pad 7 with the £135 Motorola Moto G (which we gave a Recommended award and named 'the best budget smartphone ever) and you're looking at £255 for a brilliant 7in tablet and a brilliant smartphone.

A compact, affordable tablet like the rest of them seven-inchers when it comes to the usual stuff like email, web browsing and whatever commuters and vacationers do. And by the way, calling and texting may as well be on the list too. There're more than enough tablets that can do that.

If you are looking for a tablet that you can also use as a phone, you could perhaps consider this one. If you plan to replace your phone altogether, we'd recommend phablet-sized phones such as the Yu Yureka (Review | Pictures), which are a lot easier to handle. The benefits of the bigger screen are negated by too many other factors when it comes to the Asus Fonepad 7 (FE171CG).

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is een grote Taiwanese fabrikant van computerhardware gevestigd in Taipei, opgericht in 1989. Onder de merknaam Asus produceert het bedrijf een breed scala aan producten, waaronder laptops, desktops, moederborden, grafische kaarten, monitoren, smartphones en netwerkapparatuur, complete systemen en pc-onderdelen voor eindgebruikers.
Onder de merknaam ROG (Republic of Gamers) produceert ASUS gaming laptops die bij gamers bekend staan om hun krachtige specificaties, speciale grafische kaarten, schermen met hoge verversingssnelheid en geavanceerde koelsystemen.
Naast gaming wordt een breed scala aan notebooks aangeboden voor verschillende behoeften en budgetten, van ultraslanke en lichtgewicht ultrabooks tot veelzijdige 2-in-1 convertibles en budgetvriendelijke opties. In 2023 had Asus wereldwijd een marktaandeel van 7% op de pc-markt.
De klanttevredenheid over ASUS-notebooks heeft betrekking op de prestaties, de functies en de goede prijs-prestatieverhouding van ASUS-notebooks. Zoals bij elk merk zijn er echter af en toe meldingen van problemen zoals oververhitting, drivercompatibiliteit of problemen met de bouwkwaliteit.
Deze grafische kaarten voor notebooks zijn niet bruikbaar voor games. Als ze al games kunnen draaien, dan doen ze dat met grafische afwijkingen en heel lage framesnelheid. Voor gamers zijn deze chips ongeschikt! Kantoor en internet taken zijn, daarentegen, geen probleem voor deze GPUs.

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.
