De 3810T is een erg draagbare notebook met een prettig uiterlijk. Hij is dun, licht en voelt solide aan. Door de gebruikte materialen en toetsenbord ziet de 3810T er ook nog eens fraai uit. De prijs is bovendien erg aantrekkelijk. De batterijtijd van acht uur wordt in de praktijk helaas niet waargemaakt, maar over de respectabele vijf uur hoor je ons niet klagen. De 3810T is dan ook een fijne notebook voor onderweg. Het is in dat opzicht wel jammer dat het scherm niet heel erg ver naar achteren klapt. Hoewel de 3810T is voorzien van 4 GB geheugen heeft Acer net als andere fabrikanten gekozen voor Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. Jammer, want zo wordt het aanwezige geheugen niet optimaal benut.

Sure, you’ll not be getting an ultra-fast notebook (although it looks like it is) for heavy image- and video-editing or gaming but it’s a solid performer for all your office productivity and general entertainment needs.

Acer Timeline AS3810T-6145 13.3-inch Ultraportable Laptop PC Acer's Timeline 3810T is the smallest of their new CULV based Intel products. The system is larger than a netbook but provides a fair amount more in terms of performance and features while still providing very strong battery life. Similar to a netbook, it lacks an optical drive but this isn't too much of a problem for those looking for a solid highly portable laptop to be used for all day computing. Of course, the $900 price is higher than a netbook but still quite affordable for an ultraportable.

Acer's Aspire 3810T runs and runs and runs. The Aspire 3810T is the second laptop we've seen from Acer's Timeline series. As with the Aspire 4810T, it features a compact and slim design and provides all-day battery life. It's difficult not to be impressed by the Aspire 3810T. It has faults – with poor office performance being the main issue – meaning you need to decide whether the extended battery life makes up for this. It's one of the few laptops to offer true all-day usability, however.

Add in the decent industrial design, light weight and reasonable (at least compared with other slim 12- and 13-inch laptops) performance, and it all adds up to a compelling 13-inch alternative. Note that Apple's basic 13-inch MacBook offers similar battery life for around only £70 more, and also includes an optical drive. That system weighs more, however, and has less RAM and a smaller hard drive.

The Acer Aspire 3810T, aka the Acer Timeline, has two things going for it: this model is one of the first laptops out the gate to use an Intel CULV processor (in this case, the 1.4GHz U9400). The 3810T also has a sharp style that's sure to grab attention. The Acer Aspire Timeline 3810T is a handsome-looking portable masquerading as something more powerful than it truly is - and that could be a bit of a problem for this slightly oversized netbook. The large, comfortable keys and the 13.3in screen could lull you into thinking that this portable is mighty. It is, by netbook standards - but that's about it. That said, the Timeline is a pretty solid deal, and a decent-looking machine.

Acer’s Timeline range of notebooks spans the gamut from 13.3-inch ULV ultraportable to 15.6-inch mainstream laptop, promising prolonged battery life with an affordable price tag. The company sent over their Aspire Timeline 3810T, a 13.3-inch 1.4GHz ULV machine with heady runtime estimates and an $899 sticker, for SlashGear to try out; check out the full review after the cut. As with all of these ULV ultraportables, the Timeline 3810T hovers in-between CULV netbooks and full-sized notebooks, and it’s arguable whether you’re getting significant functionality over the cheaper models. Still, for its highly usable keyboard and sturdy build, the Timeline 3810T does at least feel as though you’re getting something solid for your money.

Lightweight design. Eight hours of battery life. Good-enough performance. What else would you want from a budget ultraportable? As long as you don’t need an optical drive, we highly recommend the Timeline 3810T. In an increasingly crowded 13-inch notebook category, the Acer Aspire Timeline 3810T stands out, thanks to the combination of its low $899 price tag and astounding eight-plus hours of battery life. We like it even more than the $899 MSI X340, which, while lighter, doesn’t perform as well and has a less sturdy keyboard. Of course, we’d never hesitate to recommend the $999 entry-level MacBook (whose specs have just been refreshed), which will surely offer more power; however, that machine is heavier, and it won’t match the Timeline’s endurance. In fact, we think the Timeline’s biggest competition is the $899 Aspire 3935, which sports an optical drive, and a more luxurious design, but has only a little more than 4 hours of battery life. Either way, you can’t lose.

The worst aspect of the Aspire 3810TZ is its speakers, which sound tinny and lacklustre by comparison with the best on test. Other than this small gripe, we can't find fault - this Acer is the very definition of a superbly-balanced, inexpensive ultraportable. Some may crave more power than it, or any of its ilk, can muster, but for many the balance of power, portability and sheer tactile excellence will prove more than ample reward.

The Acer Timeline 3810TZ is a thin 13-inch laptop based on Intel's low power consuming hardware (a.k.a the CULV platform). We can't praise it enough and have to hand it down to Acer to come up with such a finely tuned laptop, in every sense.

Acer: Acer Incorporated is een Taiwanese electronica fabrikant. Hun productlijn bevat zowel desktop computers als laptops, personal digital assistants (PDA’s), servers en opslag, schermen, randapperatuur, en e-business services voor bedrijven, overheid, scholen en thuisgebruikers. Acer is de derde grootste computer fabrikant in de wereld (op vlak van verkopen) na HP en Dell Inc. Het bedrijf heeft een eigen fabriek in Taipei, Taiwan. Hun orginele naam was Multitech, opgericht in 1976. Gateway en Pacard Bell zijn economisch met Acer verbonden. Hun marktaandeel op vlak van PC’s in 2007 (marktonderzoek door IDC): HP 18,9%, Dell 16,4%, Acer 9,9%, Lenovo 7,5%, Apple 5,7%.

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Deze onboard (gedeeld geheugen) GPU is geïntegreerd in de GM45-chipset (Montevina). Door twee extra shaders en een hogere kloksnelheid is hij veel sneller dan de oude GMA X3100. Toch is hij niet aan te raden voor gamers (DirectX 10 games niet speelbaar of alleen met zeer lage grafische instellingen). De geïntegreerde grafische video processor kan de CPU helpen bij het decoderen van HD video’s, om zo het vloeiend afspelen van bijvoorbeeld Blu-Ray films toch mogelijk te maken met een trage CPU.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Dit is de Core Duo, de opvolger van de Core Solo met een langere pipeline en 5-20% meer snelheid zonder een hoger stroomverbruik. Als een aanvulling op het Core Duo ontwerp zit er een vierde decoder op, een versterkte SSE-unit en een extra reken-, logische unit (ALU).
De Core 2 Duo voor laptops is identiek aan de desktop Core 2 Duo processors maar de notebook-processors werken met een lagere spanning en een lagere Frontside bus klok. De prestatie van gelijk-geklokte notebooks is 20-25% lager dan Desktop PCs vanwege de lagere Frontside bus klok en de langzamere harde schijf.

Intel Pentium Dual Core: De naam Pentium is terug, maar een Yonah core. Double Core processor met een zeer goede verhouding tussen prestatie en stroomverbruik.

13.3: Dit schermformaat zou een “groot subnotebook-formaat” genoemd kunnen worden. Het voordeel is dat de subnotebook bescheiden afmetingen heeft en deze kan makkelijk vervoerd worden. Het kleine scherm heeft verder het voordeel dat het weinig stroom behoeft wat de batterijlooptijd vergroot en daardoor ook de mobiliteit. Het nadeel is dat het lezen van tekst erg vermoeiend is aan de ogen. Hoge resoluties kunnen nauwelijks gebruikt worden.
